It was expected and well deserved.

Is Dawn Fraser back on the team?

Unless Seven plays to have preview/build-up programming in the days leading up to it, I’ll be shocked if they only have a 30-minute build-up to the Opening Ceremony. Considering the year’s delay and everything else surrounding these Olympics, would have thought that it makes sense to have decent build-up.

Heck, Seven pre-empted Weekend Sunrise so that they could do a 3 hour build-up for the Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony five years ago

Something that’s been noticibly absent in the lead-up to this Olympics is the “Road to…” specials (which were anywhere from 5 - 30min fillers at varying times across the network, up to 6 months in advance), along with other lead-up specials.

Recall capturing Bruce McAvaney in front of a fireplace in 2016 interviewing athletes, etc.

Nice to see they’ve updated the microphone flags this year. The white logo on red look printed on the material looks real swank. :sunglasses:

They may have AFL commitments to cover in that timeslot.

The ceremony starts at 8:30 Melbourne time. I’d assume this means that they will start their preview leading into the ceremony from the news finishing at 7pm.

Natasha Exelby is travelling to Tokyo for Channel 10

At leas they’ll have one reporter. They’ll probably send one more from the Sydney newsroom. In the past they’ve sent 2-3 reporters.

It will be really hard for non-rights holders this time round with all the covid restrictions and the bubbles. Ayheletes won’t be able to go out of the official zones for short interviews like they have in the past.

I think Max Futcher (now co-presenter Seven News Brisbane) covered a few, was definitely at Beijing 2008 for 10

Olympics section in the aesthetically refreshed 7Plus.

I assume based on this they are not doing a paid sub service for Tokyo like they did Rio?

Just had to google it and it’s even better than I remember.

Looking at the presenting line-up, I notice Johanna Griggs, Edwina Bartholomew, Matt Shirvington and Lisa Sthalekar are from Sydney. The COVID lockdown in Sydney plus Victorian Government’s possible hard border closure to NSW means all four may have to host the coverage at the Harbour City.

I’m sure they’d get an exemption (media/ essential/ communications or whatever), isn’t that what’s been happening in TV since day dot of coronavirus? Are they perhaps not already in Melbourne doing rehearsals?

With core production not coming out of Sydney, a worst case scenario like you suggest, might be what, a make-shift green screen booth or something?
