I believe the track and field is a OBC produced mix - they do a ‘session’ mix with all track and field events for broadcasters ( as well as splintered feeds for each individual discipline) but don’t/can’t take everything live (in previous games with crowds you’d hear a roar for another event then realise what it was a few minutes later when they mixed it in). It’s never perfect as they naturally have a bias towards track events being live because you have to take the whole thing and can’t ‘pause’ the action.
It’s kind of similar to a major golf tournament - they’d have you believe everything was live but if you are following live scoring they often switch to birdie putts a minute or so after they’ve been taken.
Replaying the velodrome cycling and the Australians’ incident 45-60min on the main channel after it happened, complate with “Live” and no reference to any of it beforehand, also made obvious by cuts/edits to the succeeding qualifying races and crossing-back to Abbey and Hamish in the studio.
So I’m guessing tonight’s featured events aren’t until later? edit According to Cynic’s graphic above, yep, track and field from 8:20pm eastern and Matildas and Opals later in the night. So they’re doing studio fluff and highlights fillers it seems until then, I know @cmo hates fhis.
Indeed. I’ve watched both the cycling and the equestrian silver medal live. No need to watch shitty main channel coverage if you can watch elsewhere.
How can the delayed events be remotely entertaining.
They’re treating viewers with contempt, conning, but we probably are dumb and as mentioned either don’t realise or even care, just fixated on the entire Olympic Games experience, so Seven know they’re just going to keep getting their millions in these games that keep on delivering
Hope your devices are on their curated OBS streams and now Seven’s channel live streams (as you’ll get their constant channel changing and long ad breaks). But yeah the indivudual event streams are superior IMO
Yes, but I’m taking about the broadcasts and deceiving viewers with “live” when it’s clearly delayed
It’s not meant to be, they’ve always used it as indicating a telecast is “live” (if delayed or a replay they take it off or previously used “Sport” or “Seven Sport”).
I think what’s happened is, from what I’ve observed, it can only change out of an ad break / program change (not in-program), coming from NPC Media. Which makes things awkward when they’re changing from live to delay/replay all the time. @WAtvVideos
At Gold Coast 2018, Pyeongchang 2018 and last couple of years of the Aus Open (and maybe Rio 2016 can’t remember), the “Live and Free” was controlled in-program by the production, so they could change it from “Live” to not live at a finger click. For some reason, they’ve abandoned that this Olympics.
Have a close look over coming days and you’ll see what I mean.

It would also be interesting to see what Prime/GWN, SCA and VAST are doing as well (are they carefully following their metro link or are they keeping “Live” on when metro have taken it off for delayed)?
