I prefer different people. I don’t think Renee is a journalist anyway. She’s an entertainment reporter.
I’ve got no issues with Jayne but it doesn’t surprise me she ended up with the gig, given how persistent 9 were to keep her around on Today, Weekend Today and Today Extra for all these years. That said, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the newsreader role who’s been around for long enough.
All we can say it’s a safe option for them.

I’d love to delve deeper into tonight’s Inside Media story regarding Today if I may.
Further to Rob’s story, what the hell is going on?
What is it about the show that people just don’t like? What is it about Sunrise that people do like?
I see them in my eyes both equally and don’t mind watching either program but obviously there’s something about Today that just isn’t hitting the mark.
Any suggestions at what it could be? Surely we’re not already back to removing Karl from the show again? It can’t be him surely?
It might be that people tuned out because the show just looked like a part of the Olympics coverage which some people will avoid any of that and then they flew back to the old set and carried on while losing Brooke.
Just watched the Inside Media about Today ratings slide.
These are the reasons
a) start times of the show during and post olympics have not been the same
b) hosts after the Olympics have not been the same (Karl on leave, and Sarah off for some days)
c) viewers only watching Today during the olympics for SPORT not for the show!
Is it any surprise? The Today show during the Olympics was not the normal show. So it got no new viewers to its normal format. At least when sunrise had the olympics they kind of combined it with their normal show
Would probably put it down to the fact that Today during the Olympics wasn’t relly Today. Once the Paralympics started it didn’t help either. As a regular Today viewer, I found myself flicking to Sunrise for the 6:30 news even when Today started only 15 minutes or so later in SA. I also find Sunrise does have a more in-depth news and finance rather than the rapid-fire news on Today.
Taking the proper show off air during the Olympics definitely did not help. Normal Today viewers seeking the usual show with news, etc would’ve switched over to Sunrise and NB, while those who came just for the Olympics would’ve tunned out the second it was over.
However, IMO, Today looks and feels a bit dark and slow these days, in comparison to the brightness and fast paced show from Sunrise. Even News Breakfast looks better than Today these days.
And to an even lesser extent, I think having the brand for 6.5 hours (5am-11:30am) might be doing more harm than good, even though 3 hours is a different format, having the same show all morning might add a bit of viewer fatigue (even though I know most don’t sit through all 6.5 hours).
Presenter changes wouldn’t have helped either.
With the end of Paralympics, Today Early News was back followed by a 5.30 am start for Today.
Also worth noting that during Paralympics, then there was no Early News viewers were often directed to continue watching the games on 9Gem potentially drawing viewers away from Today.
Perhaps a similar reason to why The Chase has seen a post Olympics increase - viewers weren’t in their normal habits so ‘tested’ Sunrise/The Chase, and haven’t turned back … yet!
Today really need a new makeover! A new graphics package, new colours, new screen graphics behind the hosts…
That would definitely help to a certain extent, but think the biggest thing they need right now is stability, that seems to be important to people with the show being heavily affected by Olympics / Paralympics coverage.
No need for panic stations just yet.
