Kitchen

Pretty boring kitchen. Looks like they couldn’t be bothered making a set so they’re using one of the break room kitchens.

If they knew this was always the plan surely they would’ve designed a break kitchen that looks more interesting on screen?

The soft set looks incredible.

Nothing says Christmas in Australia like a snowglobe and snowflakes.

I may have been referring to a presenter

I actually like the ordinary kitchen - feels natural and authentic

I agree. I don’t see a problem with it. Perhaps just the lighting.

I think for the amount of time the kitchen is used on air it is wise that they are just using the lunchroom one as the cost to build one into the set and space needed for it to be stored is an unwise use of money when you already have a modern kitchen in the newsroom.

With all the Millions spent on the North Sydney fit out, I am pretty sure they would be happy to shell out $50k for a Kitchen (Today Xtra could use it also).

As a minimum they could have it sponsored by Kitchen Connection or the like and have it done for free.

Alternatively build a lunch room that is camera ready!

If they really wanted to go all out, they wouldn’t have reused the video wall on the news set, nor the LHS wall from the old news set in the new soft set.

Perhaps ACA would’ve got a nicer studio too…

No point in making a ‘studio kitchen’. It’s only used for a few minutes per day on air and it would be a waste of space, instead they can invest it another studio for another program

I would have thought a kitchen was pretty important especially for Today Extra with all their infomercials - saucepans, saucepan cleaners, steamers, etc

So many snowflakes

In the case of the Morning Show most if not all of the advertorials are not filmed at Martin Place. I presume Today Extra may be the same so they could potentially have a kitchen elsewhere as part of the advertorial set.

I can’t believe people are poo pooing that the kitchen isn’t a fake one? :joy:

Why shouldn’t they use the staff kitchen? Sure it’s not as flashy and plastic looking, but it served its purpose and it will no doubt be dressed in future for on air.

The issue with having a TV station in an office building is that you have a lack of storage space, so they probably don’t have room to store a fake kitchen that’s used maybe twice a month.

The grand days of having more space than you need for extra set crap are gone. We all need to accept this, companies are and need to be more fickle with their resources so we can’t compare it to the old studios

You could fork out 100k for a kitchen in the staff area, but like anything it gets wear and tear and it’s not worth the extra investment.

Even though it may not be a really nice looking specially made for TV thing (let’s not forget that Nine partly had special TV kitchens in the past because full cooking shows used to be produced at Willoughby), I think the staff kitchen is really all the occasional cooking segment on Today or Today Extra needs.

OK so the lighting could be a bit better, but I’m sure that kitchen has been made for TV usage to at least some degree and besides, it’s highly likely that many thousands of Today viewers have less glamourous looking kitchens in their homes than the one Nine has in their North Sydney HQ!

That isn’t a kitchen. It’s just a table with portable electrical stoves.

I know the current Today team has settled in nicely now and is doing a really good job but in terms of ratings and time difference, would a return of Today Perth News be an option?
They are still significantly behind Sunrise and they still do the local news.
Whether it be the local news like it was previously or an expanded version of Today Perth to air in a longer format e.g. live from 6:30am-9am with the main show airing live on 9 and delayed in its regular timeslot on 9Gem.

It would be nice as Tracy Vo could use that slot - but has she actually contributed to good ratings in the past?

Nine wouldn’t of picked up Monika Kos if they had confidence in their current lineup.
