Remember the days Sunrise would do this exact thing and contribute to the community? Sadly those are long gone…
Good to see Nine doing this.

Aren’t Sunrise already doing this? Eddy is on location each day next week across 4 states. Announced this morning.

And judging from Eddy’s tweet something else will be announced on Friday.

Pell was just waiting for his insider at nine to tell him their plans probably.

Sad but probably true, too bad it’s a result of the competitor doing it that requires action.
Sunrise’s interaction with local communities is poor and almost non existent when it’s not a promo for a company or some deal.

FIGHTING FOR OUR FARMERS

TODAY TO BROADCAST FROM DROUGHT-RAVAGED COUNTRY

They are the lifeblood of Australia, but our farmers are in the battle of their lives against one of the most brutal droughts on record, and they need the nation’s help and support.

In a special TODAY show event on Monday, August 6, we will be broadcasting live from the epicentre of drought-ravaged Australia. TODAY hosts Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner will be at Loomberah Hall in Tamworth, North West NSW, while Sylvia Jeffreys and Tim Gilbert will be in the town centre of Dirranbandi, South West Queensland.

With their once fertile land that supported diary, grain and cotton now arid dust bowls that are eating away at livelihoods and mental health, we will be meeting the heroes of the land to see what our farming communities are up against and how it’s reached crisis point.

Shining a spotlight on what we can all do to lend a hand, the special event show will raise awareness in city communities on just how tough our farmers are doing it and what needs to be done by the State and Federal Governments. With farmers facing the driest winter on record, we dissect what further assistance needs to be given.

Karl Stefanovic said: “Our farmers are the backbone of this great country, and they need our help. We want to shine a light on their plight and explain the issues they’re facing.”

Georgie Gardner said: “Our farmers are known for their resilience and work ethic. They’re a proud bunch that shun the limelight and rarely ask for help. That’s why it’s so critical to put the focus on this drought crisis and assist them to get back on their feet. We want our farmers and their families to know the whole nation is here to lend its support.”

Meanwhile, Sylvia Jeffreys will be alongside Tim Gilbert at Dirranbandi.

“The whole country is feeling the struggles of our farmers right now,” she says. “It has had such a devastatingly sad impact on large areas and families.”

Viewers can help by donating to our special drought relief fund called Fighting For Our Families. The tax deductible donations are being administered by Rotary Australia http://rotaryaustralia.org.au/ and will be distributed to farmers in need with the help of the National Farmers’ Federation.

FIGHTING FOR OUR FARMERS

DROUGHT RELIEF APPEAL RAISES OVER HALF A MILLION IN 24 HOURS

The Nine Network’s FIGHTING FOR OUR FARMERS Drought Relief Appeal has raised an astounding $502,403 in 24 hours.

As Nine’s campaign gathers pace to support our drought-weary farmers, who are experiencing the driest winter on record, the TODAY show will broadcast live from the epicentre of the crisis on Monday, August 6, from 5.30am AEST.

TODAY hosts Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner will be at Loomberah Hall just outside Tamworth, North-West NSW, while Sylvia Jeffreys and Tim Gilbert will be in the town centre of Dirranbandi, South-West Queensland.

Donations are being administered by Rotary Australia and will be distributed to farmers in need with the help of the National Farmers’ Federation.

National Farmers’ Federation President, Fiona Simson, is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and generosity.

“From mums and dads to big business, people from Broome to Bordertown to Brisbane and everywhere in between have donated generously. The NFF is focused on getting support to our farmers through the hard-working drought programs already in full swing,” Ms Simson said.

“Very, very soon we’ll be seeing that the donations of Australians get to the organisations who can address the immediate needs of our farmers. These needs include fodder and water supplies, help with everyday living expenses, and access to health and financial services.

“Right now many in our farm community are doing it tough, but they are definitely feeling the love from their fellow Aussies.”

DROUGHT RELIEF APPEAL RAISES OVER ONE MILLION DOLLARS FOR OUR FARMERS

Nine’s FIGHTING FOR OUR FARMERS Drought Relief Appeal has now raised a staggering $1,086,743 since its launch on Thursday morning.

Across the weekend, viewers from around Australia have opened their hearts and their wallets to support our drought-weary farmers, who are experiencing the driest winter on record.

Nine Chief Executive Officer, Hugh Marks, is overwhelmed by the incredible generosity.

“It’s truly inspiring to see how Australians have rallied together to show their support for the drought-affected farmers and farming communities who are doing it tough. To surpass the magic million in just a few days is an astounding achievement and a true testament to the Aussie spirit. We thank you,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank the dedicated Nine staff, right across the country, who have given their time to man the appeal phones. We want the farmers to know that our support for them, and our relief appeal to raise desperately needed funds, continues.”

National Farmers’ Federation President, Fiona Simson, is grateful to those who have heard the needs of our farmers and have given big to help.

“As each day passes without significant rainfall, the situation for our farmers is getting tougher. Fodder is getting more difficult to source, farmers are having to make tough decisions about whether they continue to feed livestock or sell. Farm and household water supplies are drying up. Financial commitments are becoming harder to meet,” Ms Simson said.

“The NFF is now focussed on seeing that the money donated gets to our farmers on the ground to provide the help they need most.”

Donations are being administered by Rotary Australia and will be distributed to the organisations who can address the immediate needs of our farmers with the help of the National Farmers’ Federation. Money raised will assist fodder and water supplies as well as helping farmers’ everyday living expenses including access to health and financial services.

Viewers can continue to donate anytime online via todayshow.com.au. They can also call 1800 732 165 with the donation lines remaining open until 8pm AEST tonight, and again from 5.30am AEST tomorrow.

I feel that Today is going to receive negative feedback from today’s OB. Whilst they seeem to be more committed to making a communal difference, they don’t have the ability of flexing between special coverage and light stpries and for the latter to still feel appropriate. For example, whilst the team were bantering about the kicker of the news, the faces of the rural community were ones of disgust and bewilderment.
