Today Tonight

@Biscuit45 is this it?

Also, tonight marks 11 years of Rosanna Mangiarelli hosting Adelaide’s Today Tonight, Amelia Mulcahy mentioned it at the end of the bulletin.

Yep, that’s the one!

Wonder if we’ll get some graphics tweaks in Perth tonight… Something I’ve also been wanting to mention is the “Sports Extra” Title-Card has also changed, which had been the same even before the move from Dianella to Osborne Park, apart from a music intro tweak earlier this year.

I believe Seven should return Today Tonight right across Australia. This would be best served as a national program airing at 6:30pm in Perth and Adelaide on 7 and could be screened at 7pm on the east coast on 7Two. This could also be encored on the main channel at 10:30pm at night perhaps with a 5 minute news update as a lead in

Nope. TT failed when it was revamped in 2013, I don’t think it would work nowadays.

I am suggesting it from 2 points. Firstly, Seven produce a Perth and Adelaide edition - so it could save money. Secondly, if they actually invested in higher quality, more intriguing stories, they may capture an audience.

I suggested it be aired on 7Two on the east coast due to the probability it would be low rating

It’s been over four and a half years, the East Coast has surely moved on by now? Probably the only reason Today Tonight still exists in Adelaide & Perth is because their editions have long running hosts with the added benefit of high rating 6pm Seven News bulletins (again with newsreaders who’ve been their for decades).

And yes I’m aware there’s still A Current Affair airing on Nine in the East Coast markets, but Tracy Grimshaw is probably one of the main reasons that show is even still going…

You just know Naomi has been sitting by the phone waiting for that call and practicing her earnest Ice Queen presenter pout in the mirror for the last 12 years. She may have even mastered reading the f-cking autocue by now, even if a word or comma is out of place in the script.

“Well f-ckwit you sit up here and you read the bloody autocue”- Naomi Robson.

Possibly because they fear that Nine and Seven are intent on delivering tabloid TV - or should I say News Corp TV (televisions version of The Daily Telegraph)

And multiple repeats the next day on 7TWO and 7mate, with an omnibus edition on Sunday morning and bestofs over summer.

Well, no I think that would be like airing House Rules or My Restaurant Rules multiple times over the week - and the just in case you missed it Sunday afternoon edition of the last weeks edition

I think a late night encore (similar to Nine’s 3:30am edition of ACA which now airs with Ellen instead of ABC’s GMA) would be enough and could be sacrificed if needed to be

If Seven ever decided to return TT, it would be ideal to replicate the Adelaide formula with more serious current affairs stories versus ACA-style “quality journalism” where every episode features running after some low life. Perth alone could learn a lot by studying the Adelaide edition.

I doubt Seven would consider a revival on the East Coast it in the short term. Adelaide at least is still going because it has quality content and rates very well. It also gives a refreshing pace change to the news hour.

A show like that could be great but it wouldn’t be Today Tonight. The TT brand has been damaged beyond repair in the east coast markets, why would they try to use it when what they are creating is something totally different anyway?

Personally I’d like to see something like TVNZ’s Seven Sharp. Call it “The Seven Show” and have two hosts (along the lines of Kylie Gillies and Hamish McDonald), a bit of banter and mostly human interest stories with the occasional in-depth investigation, celebrity interview etc. Take some inspiration from The Project but age it up a little bit (not too much).

Could be produced pretty cheaply from the performance area in Martin Place.

Today Tonight in Perth is horrific.

Hear hear! I’ve always thought Seven Sharp could work on the East Coast. Sign Mel Doyle back on weekdays or perhaps Sarah Harris? It’d be easy to flick over from ACA.

Until Seven’s reign in Perth and Adelaide ends (and I can’t see that happening), Today Tonight will stay. I personally see no reason to nationalise TT, especially because there are too different markets. Some want Aldi, some want journalism :woman_shrugging:

Today Tonight still doing stories on House Rules? That ended a few weeks ago.

It was about how SA is a great state at renovating and that the show wants some contestants from SA next year.
