I think there are two ways to look at this stint:

A chemistry test with David that, if successful, Sylvia will either host Weekend Today or Extra with him permanently next year. Or…
-
They picked someone to fill-in for Sonia that will not be getting the role next year as it might spoil an announcement. The successor still being up in the air.

I think, whoever they get to replace Sonia, I hope it’s a qualified journalist. I personally feel that’s what the show was always missing. Rolling coverage was always their weakness and I feel as if having someone like Sylvia, Natalia Cooper or even Wendy Kingston step into the Today Extra would be perfect.
Plus…Bec Maddern anyone???

Wendy Kingston would be the perfect co-host, but with her having been settled on the Gold Coast for a number of years and also supporting a young family, I can’t see her wanting to relocate down to Sydney in a hurry. It’s easy for us to say that we would like someone to relocate somewhere across the country, but we’re obviously not the ones actually having to do so.

Kelly Sloane left the media in 2015, she’s now in consulting and board work.
