A bit overdramatic. Today is still number two in the timeslots. It still beats News Breakfast, Studio 10 and whatever else is against it on 10 and every other channel.
Wouldnât take much notice of what theyâre doing over the summer - the show is probably only airing because it has too and I suspect those involved with it would actually prefer a complete break for a couple of weeks before relaunching (again) in the New Year.
If this revamp doesnât work though do Nine have to go further next time and rather than replace the hosts actually axe Today and replace the damaged brand as well, even if the new show would essentially follow the breakfast show model.
Yeah sure. If a reset doesnât work then try a complete reboot, cross your fingers and pray.
Usually, I would agree with you- too many changes and you risk alienating your audience. But, I think Today needs to be an exception.
First impressions matter. We saw that this year; no amount of host involvement or cash jackpots could bring back those viewers that were lost. So, next year you have to go all out. The first thing people will be looking for is the chemistry between Karl and Allison. There is no time to be developing it- the spark needs to already be there (youâd think after having years of problems with the hosting partnerships, theyâd be conducting chemistry tests amongst the team before throwing them on air together).
I donât think anyone would despute that there will be a few extra eyeballs on Jan 5 to see them which is a perfect opportunity to show the viewers the exclusive interviews, format changes and a new approach to storytelling. If they like what they see, they are more likely to return this way.
Okay, maybe we shouldâve said the same thing about Todayâs ratings in 2019?
If confirmedâŚa complete refresh during the silly season could also be seen as the showâs second bloodbath in less than a year.
Is this the reaction they want?
Wow. Didnât think they would get rid of Stevie again. I guess Tracey brings some diversity which they need and Alex is like a replacement Fordham. Wonder where Dickie stands?
This just doesnât sit right.
Why does the man, who is largely responsible for the down fall of this show due to his personal life choices, get to return and be the main face of the show when he is mostly the reason that:
Sylvia Jeffereys
Tim Gilbert
Natalia Cooper
All lost their jobs?
And Karl is now the âlast one standingâ.
It just seems icky.
So they are bowing down to Karl already?
Peter Ford is corroborating the ârumoursâ.
Tracy is a good newsreader with a lot of potential- I actually think she is one of the best choices out of the other possible junior presenters. I have always been a fan of Tim Davies, as I have made clear on here many times, as I think he is great breakfast talent. However, I donât think he is a popular as Stevie, so that is a brave choice to remove him.
I wouldnât buy that for a minute, Tracy relocated back to Perth to be closer to her family, doubt she would move back over.
Things can change.
Itâs been a whole year.
Iâm more interested to see whoâs the new Weekend host.
@nationalnews why do you keep deleting posts that are an integral part of the conversation?
dont forget money talks . if tracy is paid the right amount then she would
Thanks for saying that I feel Iâm posting too much; self moderation. Donât worry about your post above- it still flows on from Harbourside. I even checked before I deleted.
Ah okay. Not to worry. Just thought they were informative and could have kept the convo going is all!
That is such a good point wow
Tracy is a good presenter and has what it takes, Alex is good, not too sure about Tim he has more potential in news.
But I also think the issues with the show extends beyond its presenting team - yes, they front the show, but the production staff and all others involved are making a boring, dry and dull product that puts me to sleep at breakfast.
Wow. Surely not. Why would they get rid of Stevie again. Him and Karl were great together.
Perhaps now sheâs spent time with them she wants to get away.
