I’m aware. I wasn’t commenting on him being in melb. I was commenting on him being there at all after this antics last week. Get rid of him.
I haven’t commented on the opener before. I’m aware it’s been in place.

I verified this with my source. You’re correct regarding Today main show.
Weekend and extra being worked out.
Deb and Tom did the farewell at 5.55am. It wasn’t that good (included “red hot go”). Maybe they should’ve left it for Dickie or Stevie; it might have been more heart-felt or sincere.
Damn I missed the farewell message
That’s a strong team I reckon. This will work out well.
Keeping Tom is a mistake. He can’t read well and has no personality.
I think his main problem is that there’s not really anyone there with a personality that draws others out. Karl is good at that. I remember instances where Roz Kelly etc filled in on sport and he was always able to draw their personalities out. Hopefully that happens with Tom next year.
No. They can’t be said to “remain in place” If they have a different job.
Georgie Gardner Leaves Today
Today presenters Tom Steinfort and Deborah Knight have paid tribute to their departing co-host Georgie Gardner.
On Saturday it was confirmed Karl Stefanovic will return to the show as host in 2020, alongside 60 Minutes reporter and Weekend Today presenter Allison Langdon.
Speaking on-air this morning, Steinfort and Knight thanked the absent Gardner, who opted not to appear on the program this week.
“Before we get to the news, we wanted to acknowledge this morning our colleague and friend Georgie Gardner,” Knight said.
“You might have read over the weekend that Georgie has left the Today show and after a really challenging year, we want to wish Georgie all the very best.”
Steinfort added: "She really has been a committed and passionate member of the team here, particularly when she’s been sharing the stories of everyday Australians who are doing it tough.
"These are issues that she wanted to focus on, and [to] shine a light on people who needed it most.
“She has always been a woman of strength, a woman of class. Who could forget her very wicked sense of humour that would just pop up from time to time as well.”
Over the weekend, Gardner said she was proud to have been part of the “first female hosting duo in Australian breakfast television” and was “naturally disappointed” to leave the program.
“She gave it a red hot go,” Knight said.
"For now though, Georgie’s enjoying the time with her family, with her friends, taking Wilbur the dog for a walk.
“And we look forward to seeing you, Georgie, on our screens again very soon.”
I do agree Karl has that skill to engage well with others on air but with Tom l hope it doesn’t turn into the ‘boys club’ banter cause that will alienate the female viewers they have left.
That’s the issue with the risk Nine are taking. Sure, Karl will probably bring back some viewers Today has lost this year. However, their gains could be offset if their existing viewers (especially those who returned to the program this year) are alienated as a result of his return
Yeah they should be putting Karl on the front line to get viewers used to him and show them what he’s best at. Karl is prob wanting to cover them too being from QLD and having the experience
Taking your claims at face value, I’m wondering why some of them want to stay? It’s been a grueling year, there’s some grief to be had with the whole process of switching hosts and dealing with format changes (include some salvos with Sunrise gimmicks), it just seems odd to see the current hosts take a haircut one way or another while new stars get shipped in.
I think Deb has always been a team player. If she can move to newsreader on the same salary and be the fill in host for both Karl and Ally why wouldn’t she stay on?
Tom seems to rabbit on about Richmond a lot so I reckon sport might suit him better as well.
Nobody wants to quit a prime job. Every job has its challenges and if you really want that job, you don’t just quit because the year was grueling.
Today addresses show’s awkward absence:
Annette Sharp is not alone at Newscorp Towers. There is a queue of commentators who want to tear strips off Karl.
Written by Alexandra Carlton, daughter of Mike Carlton.
I trailed through the contemporaneous news reports from the time of Stefanovic’s sacking to see if I’d missed anything but no.
That was it.
That was all of it.
yep, pretty much. I think it was more in house at Nine when someone gave the rights to a rival magazine for his wedding exclusive more than anything. It really is like that “Morning Show” on Apple TV
