Thoughts on Tony Jones Sports Presenter role in 2020?
@Haydos l would prefer Clint Stanaway on weekdays Sport.
I actually like the idea of complete new show.
Like others have said, move the show to Melbourne, have Rebecca Maddern and Karl Stefanovic present together (heās previously said he would move there). Have Tony Jones on sport full time and offer the news gig to another upcoming interstate presenter.
Sounds worse to me.
Nine have sent this statement re News Corp papers reporting on Carrie Bickmore:
STATEMENT FROM NINE ABOUT FALSE STORY IN NEWS CORP PAPERS
Statement from Darren Wick, Nine Director of News and Current Affairs:
āThe story published by News Corporation in its Sunday newspapers and online stating as fact that Nine has approached Carrie Bickmore to join the Network is a lie.
Nine has not approached, and does not intend to approach, Carrie Bickmore or her representatives about joining Nine as a host of the Today Show, nor in any other role.
Carrie is an outstanding broadcaster and an inspirational person. Sheās terrific. But she does not factor in our plans for the future.
News Corpās story is not a beat up - it is completely made up.
The reporter, Amy Harris, who wrote this lie was told yesterday by a Nine spokesperson that her allegation was incorrect. Yet, News Corporation has chosen to publish it regardless without corroborating sources or facts to support this fantasy. In fact, the story does not contain any sources on the record. And the anonymous sources it quotes will not stand up to scrutiny under any possible legal examination.ā

The spokesperson for Nine in that report describes the proposition of Bickmore hosting next year as āfantasyā yet declined to comment when asked if the present hostsā jobs were safe next year. Is it any wonder the reporter senses a change in the wind when Nine declines to completely quash the rumour by backing the current team 100%.
These stories about talent being poached by rival networks do seem to come up when stars are approaching the end of a contract. We all remember the rumours of Karl leaving Nine for Seven when his last contract was being negotiated. That resulted in a hefty pay rise because Nine was desperate to keep him at the time.
The gloves are off. No more beating around the bush. They call them out for their lies and the reporter is branded a liar.
This seems to be an everyday occurrence with Newscorp these days along with the legal action that follows.
Is this potentially Carrieās camp making up a story to help boost her value in negotiations? Itās a fairly common move when someoneās contract is coming up.
I think that having a Today show in Melbourne could be on the cards as though it will provide a slight boost to ratings. 9 months ago, Today Show did the show in Melbourne due to the Australian Open Summer of Tennis. Bec Maddern and Tony Jones are Melbourne-based reporters.
Iām sure the plans in North Sydney factor in the Today Show. It 100% wonāt be moving to Melbourne any time soon.
Itās not contract time but besides that, this story comes up every few months. Do you think theyāre responsible for those false rumours too?
Or is it more likely that Newscorp has a vendetta against Nine/Fairfax and Today with the number of clickbait stories they run every week?
More like, any stories about either Karl, Carrie or Todayās hosts goes completely viral online, as this one has.
There has been quite an escalation with this. News and Nine use to be quite cosy now itās just one article after another trying to discredit them. News probably hating on how Nine entertainment has become quite a large and influential media conglomerate since the merger with Fairfax.
Wouldnāt be surprised. As well as mischief making by the News Corp rags.
Think you hit the nail on the head there. They do this to negotiate more money cause it looks like someone else wants them.
Youāre blind to the reality of Newscorp.
Also I would like to see Sarah Harris in the chair. Her and Karl would be great but I donāt think it will happen.
You need to stop falling for these Newscorp lies and stop playng the same game.
Would it be completely unrealistic to want a male co-host of Today (or Sunrise, but thatās for a different thread) who isnāt a complete d***head?!
