Respected journalists Allison Langdon and Peter Stefanovic will co-host Weekend TODAY with Jayne Azzopardi presenting news, it was announced today.
The pair – who are regular faces on 60 Minutes – will wake up with viewers every Saturday and Sunday from January 20. Allison will combine co-hosting Weekend TODAY with her 60 Minutes role as a reporter, while Peter will join the Nine News Sydney team after a very successful and busy year at 60 Minutes. He will also contribute stories to 60 Minutes where possible.
Tom Steinfort, who has been co-hosting Weekend TODAY since early 2017, has begun a fulltime reporting role on 60 Minutes.
Allison Langdon said: “I’m really excited to be joining the Weekend Today team. Pete is a great mate and has been for many years. We both take our journalism very seriously but not ourselves. We have a lot of laughs together and I look forward to sharing that with our Today audience alongside Jayne, who is one of the best and hardest working journalists in the country.
This opportunity is a wonderful fit with my 60 Minutes commitments and allows me to travel less and spend more time with my beautiful little boy Mack. I can’t wait for the year ahead."
Peter Stefanovic said: “To be asked back to co-host Weekend Today is a privilege, and it definitely feels like I’m returning home. I’ve known Ally for more than ten years. She’s a great journalist, smart and funny, and I look forward to working alongside her and Jayne. She’s a perfect addition to the Weekend Today show squad!”
Nine Network Director of News, Darren Wick, said: “What a team to wake up with every weekend. The dynamics and professionalism of Ally, Pete and Jayne guarantees a relaxed and warm start to your weekend, and I couldn’t be happier. I want to thank Tom Steinfort for his wonderful work on Weekend Today and congratulate him on his new role at 60 Minutes.”
Whilst I was never a fan of Pete co-hosting with Deb Knight, I think he will do well with Allison. A shame they still haven’t got a sports presenter yet, but fixing their revolving door of presenters is a good start.
Brenton’s latest tweet makes it seem like the show will be broadcast from Adelaide all next week which must mean it will be a decent set change if they need so long away from the set.
I didn’t take it that way. I’m reading it as Ragless is in Sydney, they’ll feature reports on the Tour Down Under taking place in SA next week and he’ll be back in SA to present the Adelaide news on the 22nd.
That tweet could be taken two ways. Did he do that on purpose? I now doubt they will actually be in Adelaide for a full week. IF they did do a new set they couldn’t copy BBC UK because they already did the giant red lounge and they aren’t in a studio with natural lighting to do a US Today look. I think they may change a few things but keep the backdrop and desk.
I’m wondering if all these promos are intended for is just the presenters and when they are back. We might not even be in for a set change or anything.
It was a few weeks (or months?) back in late 2014 /early 2015 (?). They had a very simple set consisting of mostly graphic panels. Can’t find any evidence online, but they also used a very similar set when they broadcast from the Adelaide Easter Appeal in 2015.
Yes l do recall that Weekend Today did come from GTV for a few weekends, l think it was sometime in December or holiday period in January and quite sure Clint Stanaway was either hosting or presenting sport at the time, Deb Knight was definitely hosting. @nationalnews should be able to tell us when it actually was.
Tim Gilbert said he will be doing sport next week from Adelaide for the cycling, in addition to hosting the coverage. So I take it that he will be ‘highlighting SA’ with Brenton returning to Adelaide for Monday week’s bulletin.
But just because they are staying in Sydney, it doesn’t be there won’t be any changes to the set for Jan 22…
Weekend Today first used that set in Melbourne, as mentioned, in February 2015.
Later in the year , Today had shipped that set to NWS, where they broadcasted on a Monday, following the Adelaide Telethon.
