that sounds like job insecurity though.

That crossed my mind, too. I’m sure she would’ve had the same work ethic when she was at Ten and look how they treated her.

It’s great when you have staff who are able to drop everything at a moments notice and go the extra mile for the good of the business. Not everyone is able to do it because of family commitments or they prefer to have a work life balance for their own sanity, which is fair enough. Problem is this commitment isn’t always recognised when something goes wrong and staff members have to be let go. I’ve seen it happen time and again unfortunately.

Does it even matter if Deb wants and is able to work and that the network believes she is the best candidate for the positions? And, @Drew_1981 why does Deb have to be a “female Karl”? Can’t she be her own person?

Sorry- I didn’t word that correctly. I thought their Melbourne OB was a fantastic setup… I was referring to the ratings. Some of their worst shows in recent years have been during an OB- remember they had a promo, once the tennis was ending, saying that they are “back in the studio on Monday.”. I thought it was risky to be going on tour so early.

I’m talking about in terms of leaving the studio when news stories break.

A WEEK IN PARADISE

SPECIAL EVENT BROADCAST FROM NORTH QUEENSLAND

It’s known as the Sunshine State, but over the last few months North Queensland has endured some of the fiercest weather conditions in Australia, plunging the region into severe floods and drought.

But North Queensland is back in business, and in a week-long special event beginning Wednesday, April 10, the TODAY show will be going on the road and broadcasting live from some of the world’s most beautiful places.

In a spectacular television event TODAY’s Georgie Gardner, Deb Knight, Tom Steinfort, Stevie Jacobs and Brooke Boney will visit paradise with a simple message to Australians – get behind Tropical North Queensland, Townsville and the Whitsundays, and come visit.

The team will broadcast from picture postcard areas, including Airlie Beach, Palm Cove, Townsville, Daintree and more locations. On Friday, April 12 TODAY Extra hosted by Sonia Kruger and Richard Wilkins will also broadcast from NQ, joining TODAY at Palm Cove.

Georgie Gardner said: “The images of devastating drought and floods in Queensland were nothing short of heartbreaking. The Today Show wants to bring the of rest of the country up-to-date with how Queenslanders are faring and drive home the message that tourism in the affected areas has never been more important.”

Deborah Knight said: “North Queensland is the jewel in the Sunshine State’s crown; it seems everywhere you look is stunning scenery. Tourism is crucial and we’re keen to spread the word that the region is back in business. We want all Australians to consider Queensland in their holiday plans this year, and make sure we help out struggling tourism operators.”

For TODAY News Presenter Tom Steinfort, he is looking forward to seeing the rejuvenation of Townsville after reporting from the city during the height of the devastating floods in February.

Tom Steinfort said: “The scale of the flooding was awful but my lasting memory of the disaster is the spirit of community in Townsville and the way everyone wanted to help each other.”

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones welcomed TODAY to North Queensland.

Ms Jones said: “The waterfalls are pumping, rainforests are blooming and beaches are sparkling in the tropical north. Hosting TODAY in North Queensland is a great opportunity to share the stories of these regions and encourage Australians to holiday here.

“It’s especially important heading into the Easter break in April and into the winter months, when people living in the cold southern states dream of escaping, they book a holiday to the warm, tropical climate of north Queensland.

“The Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland, has provided significant marketing support to the North Queensland tourism industry to get this message out and our partnership with TODAY marks the start of a series of campaigns.”

Come and join TODAY as we broadcast live from 5.30am-9am AEST.** **We’re encouraging everybody to come down as we get behind the locals. There’ll be cash giveaways, free breakfast and live performances.

Today abruptly went to an ad break in QLD during sport at 7am. When they returned at 7.15, they were showing the 7.30 news. So now we are now only 45 minutes behind Sydney. What is the point of that???

Edit- as I write this at 7.20, the show abruptly went to another commercial break and returned to be 35 mins behind Sydney. They are having technical issues with their delayed feed to QTQ.

As they fix the problem, at 7.40am, we have to RE-WATCH the 6.55am Entertainment and 7am block (even though we missed 20 mins of that). We are now 1 hour and 45 mins behind Sydney.

As of 8.20, everything is back to normal- QLD an hour behind Sydney and segments back in their right slots.

Christine Ahern really needs to settle down. She doesn’t need to scream down the mic. Have to turn the volume down every time she speaks

I’d have to agree. She’s a bit intense this morning.

Today continuing with extended coverage of the Melbourne factory fire - Georgie has left and Deb is hosting with Tom, from what I can tell.

Today seemed to be live into Queensland for coverage, however that has now stopped for weather and adverts.

Definitely not live in Queensland. This report is airing now, which aired an hour ago in Sydney:

Would have been controversial to have a live feed into Brisbane today about a Melbourne factory fire when the Townsville floods and George Pell hearing were delayed.

I agree. She always seems to be quite shouty in the morning. Perfect to wake you up though!

I think Today are taking a risk to be doing an OB from Queensland in the coming week. These are notorious for under-performing in the ratings and given the perilous state of their numbers at the moment, they would do better to say in the studio.

Coverage ended at 10am with Tom crossing to Richard and Sonia for Today Extra.
