I feel that Today is going to receive negative feedback from today’s OB. Whilst they seeem to be more committed to making a communal difference, they don’t have the ability of flexing between special coverage and light stpries and for the latter to still feel appropriate. For example, whilst the team were bantering about the kicker of the news, the faces of the rural community were ones of disgust and bewilderment.

DROUGHT RELIEF APPEAL DONATIONS SOAR OVER $2 MILLION

Nine’s FIGHTING FOR OUR FARMERS Drought Relief Appeal has now raised an astounding $2,158,451 since its launch last Thursday.

Whilst this is an impressive amount, more funds are desperately needed to support our drought-stricken farmers across rural Australia, and viewers are encouraged to dig deep.

Over the past month, Today have added a rolling label strap to every headline:

It is quite sensationalist when it is the same style as it is in breaking news mode.

There are many underlying issues which are affecting the ratings, other than the chemistry between Karl and Georgie, which can be fixed in the short term. However, I thought this was noteworthy:

Those straps were in place a long time ago (since last year I think). I agree that they look rather sensationalist and tacky.

The strap is unnecessary and looks terrible.

Quite embarrassing figures for Wednesday; <220000 and more than a 55000 gap.

One must wonder whether Georgie Gardner really misses presenting Nine News Sydney on Friday/Saturday nights (a position at the network she managed to hold very successfully with minimal media attention between 2014 and 2017) and doesn’t see her current position as Today co-host all it’s cracked up to be.

Because the question has to be asked: Is Today still leading the breakfast ratings in the Sydney market or is Sunrise outrating them here too?
