More noticeable on the cap of Ahron, but I’m sure they’re still ironing stuff out with lighting and will potentially look better once the new camera is up and running.
It’s a big improvement from what they started with, and miles better than something like GB News for example which I’m sure has cost a lot more.
Australian TV generally can’t do lighting well for some reason. Obviously Ticker wouldn’t have a lighting guy on, but generally we don’t seem to do it well. You could notice a huge different between Rove and Rove LA for instance.
Yeh I jumped up unexpected due to the breaking news re the subs. Turned out that camera hadn’t been balanced but now has been.
We actually did have a pro lighting guy in as the LED screen was installed two Fridays ago (it comes with the set designer) and the lighting wasn’t the issue. The cameras were. If any of you follow me on Insta you’ll see we were in there today (and til late last night) sorting it. Should be good for Monday, with brand new Sony cameras. The LED screen caused issues with our old camera lenses, so we bought new ultra HD cameras last weekend. And if any of you have tried to get anything delivered in a hurry lately, you’ll know the pain.
It’s pretty common whenever a TV network installs LED screens, even ultra fine ones like we have. You never know if your cameras are going to be up to the job until it’s installed. We even leant one out to the manufacturer to test and they said it would be fine, but it wasn’t, of course.
But sorted and everything is looking much brighter, sharper and crisper
Nobody was watching Ticker before expecting to see a local, National or international forecast as they weren’t offering that and they won’t be now either as it’s very clearly a weather & climate segment.
I also doubt that would be why you would be watching it either, so your point is a little moot but whatever - plenty of other channels offering the same old boring news forecasts if that’s what you’re after.
I think it’s pretty clear Ticker are honing in on a specific area not being serviced by other news organizations and aiming for an international focus and not trying to be all things for everyone. They have a clear focus of where and who they’re targeting and I think this new segment is a pretty clear indication of that.
Whether that proves to be a success is another story, but you can’t fault Ahron for giving it a crack. Personally I’m happy to see someone attempting to disrupt what a traditional newscast looks like.
Let’s embrace some diversity and other voices in media, especially when it’s being spearheaded by an Australian start-up.
Ticker definitely isn’t for me then. It’s a news service is it not? I expect, you know, news. I don’t feel like I’ve been informed of any news by watching this product.
On a personal choice though, I cant see myself going to Ticker for international breaking news.
For a world news service, I’ll still head to CNN / BBC or Al Jazeera. And for a local perspective on international news ill still head to the ABC. This is going to be one of the problems Ticker will face. But ill keep tuning in to see how they keep building the product. I wish them well.
I think you already knew you wouldn’t like it, but that’s okay if it’s not for you.
I’m no expert on Ticker, have only watched some of it a handful of times myself, but my understanding based on what’s been mentioned here is that their focus is on things like tech, media and business from here and around the world. You’ll probably still see general news stories from Aus & all over the world if they feel it’s relevant too I’m guessing, probably just less often than another service.
If you want local and international headlines, may I suggest ABC News might be better suited for you.
Have you actually tuned in from the top of the hour David? We have live crosses to reporters around the world, a newsroom full of journalists, and a partnership with Reuters. From the sounds of your posts, you have tuned in at random times and made up your mind on that, then come on to a public forum to state that it must be like that all the time.
Your comments are offensive to the team here who produce 45 mins of news every hour across the day.
It’s like tuning into 9 News at 6:45pm and then coming on MS to say “God 9 only do sport”.
You’ve got to start somewhere though right? When CNN launched, it took ten years for them to cut through. In 1981, media pundits didn’t even think there would be enough news for a 24/7 service. They were bagged by the rest of the media industry. Same when Cheddar launched a few years back.
We are here for the long haul, despite some of the ill informed comments on this site. Haters gonna hate.
We have a stable, solid business model which I’m proud of. I employ 20 staff and have correspondents overseas.
This is the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. I hope some of you can find a similar venture which challenges you to be better every day.
Completely agree.
At the moment you’re laying the foundations and you currently have some great talent working with you. Like I said, I look forward to seeing you guys grow in the future.
It was Will’s first day and he went over the time allotted. Twitter only gives you 2:20 for videos. What you didn’t see in this clip is Will throwing to live weather figures for cities around the world.
Not sure that added much with such ordinary camera quality, I would’ve just got her on the phone and sourced some footage elsewhere.
Don’t think it’s the best idea to have her just wandering down the street like that either in such a volatile situation, seems reckless given what happened yesterday.
Camera quality made it really hard to watch, easily could have cut in & out of other livestreams, and - as you said - sourced footage from social media or other places.
