Ticker News

Few things I noticed.

  • Why is she doing all the talking? Ben is just sitting there with nothing to say, then is left looking like a stunned mullet smiling while she blandly reads what should be a sombre intro.
  • Her mic is clipping so the gain must be too high somewhere in the chain, the echo isn’t good for a studio environment - are all Ticker shows like that?
  • The vision of the SpaceX story was totally non-relevant (what even was that? certainly not the launch, or the on-orbit tour, or the docking… vision for all of which is available on YouTube)
  • Graphics looked OK, weather is a bit bland though.
  • Headlines running for 60 seconds is way too long, each story read should be punchier - reduced to a headline and short sentence to elaborate.

I’m reminded of my time in community television.

Why is this Ben guy suddenly popping up on this venture so much? I don’t see anything palpable talent there.

Not great. Who’s the audience? Today, Sunrise and commercial radio has light entertainment locked up and the ABC has anyone interested in actual news. In fact, news breakfast probably does business news better.

Very weird headline there too, ‘would you ever take part in a protest?’ There’s nothing wrong with taking part in a protest! Most are small, non violent and an essential part of living in a democracy.

Fake fan needs to be toned down too.

I don’t get it either. I think he’s a very polarising person as well, he’s not the most warm or welcoming person. Was quite baffled at his appointment.

He’s desperate to be relevant in the TV industry it seems, but sadly I think he’s out of his depth.

I also don’t think that him smirking when his co host makes a stumble is very professional either.

Overall I know it’s a new venture so good on them, but they need to fix the acoustics in the studio, audio levels, weather graphics and a more cohesive script.

Well you’re not wrong, the 30 seconds I happened to see was them talking about Big Brother and the exclusives.

I was wondering where some of the old Sky News Business/Your Money panelists went that weren’t on ausbiz. They’ve ended up on Spotee On Shares.

Looks like Spotee is far better show too.

It was really cringing to watch. Absolutely no chemistry.

My thoughts on the 2nd episode.

While it’s good to see new Australian content coming through, this just screams something i’d see on community TV (and no offence to any Community TV Producers who are on this forum).

  • There’s no chemistry between the hosts (as others have said)
  • Ben brings no authority whatsoever to the position and seems out of place (perhaps he would be better as an Entertainment News Presenter). Perhaps bring someone in with plenty of radio news experience but with limited TV experience (but TV ready) to make the move if budget’s an issue.
  • I thought the ‘News’ segment would cover more than just 1 news story
  • The studio clearly has no soundproofing so can hear everything happening in Richmond in the ambient noise.
  • Ben’s mic doesn’t seem on and Alanah’s level seemed too high. The Skype/Zoom interviews seemed to have proper levels, but not in the studio.
  • No social distancing in this current Covid-19 world.
  • Celebrity appearances seem off-brand.
  • Where was the cross to the ASX or companies such as Commsec to look at the stock exchange markets for the day? This would be more on-brand I would think?

I know for a fact several journalists have sent CV’s in for reporter gigs around the country. Perhaps use them as interstate reporters. A story would be totally enhanced if you could have people ‘on the scene’. If budget’s an issue, then some of them may be prepared to do it for low cost to build a showreel.

I know it’s early days, but it has the potential to be something professional if done right.

The reputable, classy host of Tickers breakfast program just said on his other midday program ‘I just came in my pants’. Lucky I was the only viewer watching on Twitter (for a few minutes).

Have you heard his comments on this weeks Blackbox podcast. :flushed:

This weeks podcast was by far the worst they have done, if you have a podcast on the media you would think as a contributor you would be aware of the footage regarding journalists being assaulted by the police (even before it happened on Sunrise the following morning). The guy has just taken on a breakfast program and he is advising that you shouldn’t allow the media to sensationalize a story, I would love to know how he plans to find content then. I am sure he is a nice guy but he’s going to sink the careers of McKnight, Robbo and god knows who else.

I thought the same. New breakfast host openly saying he doesn’t trust journalists or the news or what he watches on the nightly bulletins.

Curious to know what his media background is?

Mate Big Brother and social media, what else do you need? An ex BB host and an 18 year old EP, what could go wrong?

Who’s the ex BB host?

Christ, what an embarrassment. Shows why you put a journalist in the job and not a FM radio style lightweight.

He was a contestant of Big Brother or as they like to reference like it actually means something or adds credibility. “Former Big brother winner of 2012”

Whoever is funding this venture must already be regretting that decision, also can’t believe they make the following claim with absolutely no backing whatsoever, especially when they’re getting near zero traction on socials.

Ticker content reaches over 3 million Australians per month, across the website, app, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and LinkedIn.

Will be shocked if it lasts the rest of the year, if that.

It would be interesting to know what the revenue source for Ticker is, there is very little advertising on the channel. How does the channel generate any revenue?

The numbers are very low. I noticed last week on a couple of days that adding Facebook, Twitter and YouTube together 25 viewers appears to be the average peak for the BRR via their streams.
