Nine won its first overnight ratings of the week in yet another close result. Nine’s 30% share was its second-highest Thursday result of the survey and less than one point ahead of Seven. Nine also had the top main channel on a night that featured NRL in Melbourne on the main channel rather than a multi.
10 was third for the fifth time this week while the Opposition’s reply to the budget saw ABC’s Thursday down 3 from the previous week. SBS was improved thanks to Viceland recording its best Thursday result of the year.
It was only the second time this survey that Nine had achieved a 30% share seeming to validate the decision to air NRL on the main channel in Melbourne where it managed 58,000. The 5-city audience of 421,000 was the highest NRL Thursday since round one.
Earlier, Seven News secured another clean sweep of all markets including another win in Sydney where Seven is heading for its biggest week of the year. Nine’s Sydney news result was the lowest for a Thursday this survey.
Also, on Seven, The Front Bar was steady week-on-week in preliminary numbers while Britain’s Got Talent just made the top 20. Earlier Home and Away was the top entertainment show in prime time.
The Dog House Australia topped 10’s night managing 11th place.
For ABC, two entries with ABC News posting its highest Thursday result of the survey. The Opposition Budget Reply Speech than managed 263,000 down from 353,000 in 2022.
While the NRL in Melbourne might have helped Nine last night it wasn’t convincing - in the key 25-54 demo the Melbourne rankings are below - it was only 1,000 ahead of The Cheap Seats Encore at 9:30 ish on 10

As an ex Sydney sider living in Meb, most people who look at League, prefer Rugby over League anyway.
At the end of the day, Nine has rubbish commentators and there is no way I watch Nine, I watch it on Fox Sports.
Vossy is the best commentator “by far” - nine were stupid enough to let him go.
Doesn’t look to have been “successful” at all, Nine’s main channel share looks to have been from a very good result in Brisbane, along with Sydney and the network News plus ACA combo. Comapring the usual Thursday prime time shares in Melbourne to last night, as well as the timeslot(s) audiences would be more interesting, if on par or better might be a result of a better Nine News and/or ACA results perhaps? When MC returns to Thursdays, Nine are almost gifting their audience to Seven, 10 and what have you, even though it is a good decision for Storm and NRL. It would work better on Fridays and Saturdays (like AFL with Swans and Lions for example) when higher rating programming isn’t at risk (i.e.) movies, save for BH&G.

It’s quite strange that SBS ran ads on the radio and podcasts for Safe Home but only said that it is on SBS ON DEMAND. No mention of the television screening day or times.
Nine won Sydney by 8 and Brisbane by 16. Seven won Melbourne by 7, Adelaide by 13 and Perth by 9. Nine was easily the most competitive in Melbourne in the AFL markets. Nine’s Melbourne share was down 2 from last week. Nine easily won the key demos
