Three News

You make a good point. I think, as Laura was reported as joining Stuff, I must have automatically assumed she was staying on as weekend host. Which she might - but as you say, they don’t seem to have actually announced that yet.

I’ve heard the new Three News will be broadcast from the green screen studio space formerly home to the AM show and the most recently the election green screen studio.

So not a physical set?

Unrelated but is the (echoing) studio that News First is presented from a Green Screen or an actual screen? I was thinking yesterday that they would probably use that set.

Also why not just use the current set they have now? Although maybe they won’t have enough people to use that set?

It is a green screen too (on a smaller scale than the AM space) It used to be the C4 Select Live studio space.

Interesting, and definitely helps keep it consistent for when they move to the new studio they are creating, and makes it sound like it will be green screen moving forward. I dont have a problem with a green screen set aslong as its more then News At 5.30pm or whatever its called.

If the below is an example of what they can do on this green screen set, then theres definitely hope

Pretty much what I expected.

I wrote an email to Newshub this past weekend (22 June), bade farewell to the Newshub team and extended my best wishes to ThreeNews which launches on 6 July:

Hi there

I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude and sadness as I have recently learned about the imminent closure of Newshub on 5 July. As a television trivia expert, I am deeply saddened by this news but I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all the journalists and crew who have been part of the amazing team at Newshub over the years.

I have long admired the work of Newshub and its legacy as 3 National News and 3 News. Through the changing times your team have consistently delivered authoritative and comprehensive news coverage, making a significant impact on the New Zealand television landscape. I have always been impressed by your dedication and professionalism and I have no doubt that many of the talented people at Newshub will continue to excel in their journalistic careers.

In fact, I would be thrilled if some of these brilliant journalists and crew (along with those who are new to television, despite the fact that the technology is changing) would consider joining my imagined dream television network, PTV Network New Zealand, should it become a reality. I believe that such a collaboration would lead to even greater heights of television excellence.

On a more positive note, I am excited to hear about the upcoming launch of ThreeNews, a joint venture between Warner Bros. Discovery NZ and Stuff. Beginning on 6 July, this new venture promises to bring fresh and engaging news content to viewers across New Zealand in the form of an hour-long bulletin on weeknights and a half hour bulletin on the weekends. I would like to extend my best wishes to the entire Stuff team as they embark on this new endeavour, producing the nightly news service for Three. I am confident that their expertise and dedication will ensure the continued success and growth of this new platform.

As we prepare to bid farewell to Newshub and welcome ThreeNews, I encourage everyone to stay safe, take care of themselves and keep God in their hearts. I look forward to seeing the incredible work that the Stuff team will produce as they continue to inform us as everyday Kiwis.

Until the next time we meet, please accept my warmest regards.

I’m sure they’ll appreciate being asked to join an imagination news service. About as good as they can hope for in NZ with that pathetic government.

does it?

Stuff’s new 6pm news bulletin starts July 6 at Three’s Flower St studio. Challenges at their Ponsonby location, like low ceiling height, halted studio plans. Flower St lease ends October; considering Boston Rd in Eden Tce.

:grimacing::grimacing::grimacing: Leasing a building just for the 6pm news contract … must be blowing the budget

It did state that the NZ heralds sources were incorrect, but it is an interesting read considering they have been light on details especially since we are a week out from launch. I would have thought they might have something by now to start promoting the brand Three News and its launch date etc

You would have thought these would all have been considered when deciding to take over the news.

Many news bulletins come from studios with lower than desirable roof heights, so it’s definitely possible.

A flash studio doesn’t require any head room, they could easily create one of these in an office space in very short time.

Al Jazeera’s London studio was THE masterclass on how to design a studio with a low roof (it being on the 16th floor of The Shard skyscraper). Instead of trying to hide the beams and lighting rigs, they made them part of the studio design.

Of course I highly doubt Stuff can afford Veech x Veech… but with some creativity I can’t imagine it should be too hard to come up with something good.

Could they not just build a basic studio in the newsroom? I don’t think Stuff really needs to ape One News’s (amazing) set. This would be a good idea for a set:

It’s small and basic but it does the job. Plonk a couple of LED screens either side and it’s a done deal.

According to the Freeview TV guide next Saturday, it’s stylised as ThreeNews

Silly question, what happens to all the equipment and vehicle’s at Newshub, does this all get sold off? Will Stuff buy some of the second hand equipment? I can’t fathom everything being binned, surely some of our Pacific Island nations would love to have the equipment for their news operations.

It will be sold off. Possibly worth keeping an eye on Trade Me for any cool auctions (set pieces, desks, screens, etc).

I imagine Stuff will end up buying some of the production equipment as a way of saving costs.

Maybe they’ll do a rough newsroom setup like CITY-TV in Toronto used to do?
