This Is Your Life

It’s a bit sad they have to reveal who it is prior to air.

Maybe 7 should start advertising this? The first episode got a lot of promotion but nothing so far for the remainder of the series?

This Is Your Life celebrates Aussie screen legend Ray Meagher

Chris Hemsworth, Dannii Minogue, Kate Ritchie, Bec Hewitt and more pay tribute to one of Australia’s most-loved personalities, Gold Logie-winner Ray Meagher, in an all-new This Is Your Life, 7.30pm Tuesday, 11 October on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Host Melissa Doyle surprises Ray with the iconic big red book on the set of Home and Away, before a night of laughs, tears, surprises and insights into a man who has touched the lives of so many across the years.

Summer Bay colleagues past and present – including Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Kwanten, Julian McMahon, Georgie Parker, Stephen Peacocke, James Stewart, Ada Nicodemou, Emily Symons, Dannii Minogue, Bec Hewitt and Judy Nunn – reveal the incredible impact Ray has had.

In a tearful reunion, Kate Ritchie describes how over her 20 years growing up on Home and Away, Ray became a true friend and helped shape her into the woman she is today.

Ray is also reunited with Home and Away’s original Fletcher family – Roger Oakley, Vanessa Downing, Sharyn Hodgson and Alex Papps – while stage and screen alumni Belinda Giblin, Paula Duncan and John Waters reveal never-before-heard stories about their friend and colleague.

The nostalgia continues as This Is Your Life delves into Ray’s career in film and theatre, revealing how he got his first big break playing the rear end of a horse. Ray’s secret sporting past is also explored, with appearances from rugby legends Nick-Farr Jones and John Eales.

In a heart-warming moment, Ray speaks candidly about growing up as an orphan before we meet his beloved surrogate mother Pat who helped raise him.

And speaking publicly for the first time are Ray’s wife Gilly and stepdaughter Rebecca, who share their stories about life with Ray away from the spotlight.

Don’t miss this celebration of an extraordinary actor, mentor, husband, friend and much-loved father figure.

100 minutes? What’s the chances that it will still run overtime?

And in that 100 minute run epiaode, how much will they talk about Ray’s career before his 1988’s start to Home and Away? He has done other work.

If Seven cuts back on the amount of ads during the show, it can reduce the duration down to around 90 minutes.

And still using the book as a couch prop as apposed to reading from it… why bloody bother?

Because whinged about it being included in the show.

Huh?

People on here and social media complained about the book not appearing in the first episode so they’re just appeasing them by including it. It’s a new era. It’s unnecessary. They don’t need to use a book to read out the details of someone’s life.

I just think that referring to the show as the “Big Red Book” and then not really having it as part of the show is pointless.

Sure it’s 2022. If you aren’t going to use the book then don’t have it at all and fully launch this “new era”.

I still think it’s a nice touch, but I’d rather the actual theme song come back over the book IMO.

I hate the overuse of pop songs in shows like this. Doesn’t make it young and hip, just seems tryhard

Why bother? They’ve got nothing decent to show after it anyway…

While they may not actually read from the book during the show I think it’s still a nice keepsake to give to the person involved.

I had the same though, but I doubt there’s anything in the book though.

Hoping that Seven get the spelling correct for Ray’s surname in their schedule where currently it is listed as This Is Your Life: Ray Meager - also seen in the Foxtel listing. The program description is correct however.
