The Weakest Link

Sounds like Nine have toned down on the echo when Magda says “the weakest link” in tonight’s episode.

Doesn’t sound toned down to me. It still freaks me out.

First time watching tonight.
I like it. As others have mentioned though, Magda isn’t right for the show (but certainly not unbearable) and the echo is bloody annoying and unnecessary.

People might hate me for this opinion but I think Eddie McGuire is more suited for this. Magda just isn’t serious enough.

I thought the same thing. It’s definitely not as strong as it has been.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Eddie is prone to taking the piss out of almost everything on Hot Seat. Why on earth would he suit a show like this?

They should have possibly aired this episode first if they could have, Magda’s jokes are a bit better, and to me at least the echo is less noticeable. This is very much in the similar vein to the US/Jane Lynch version, will happily keep watching but would have loved the more nastier version.

Eddie would just have a more professional approach I believe to the show, I’ve been in the Hot Seat Audience several times so I know how he acts behind the scenes as well as on the screen. I just think he’d be more suited than Magda. Either that or Nine should replace the weakest link with an Aussie version of Tipping Point.

I had never heard the term “A spare dick at a wedding” before. That and the Moby Dick joke - more risqué than the average game show.

Sigrid Thornton would’ve been a great choice if they wanted to get someone from the left field to replicate the nasty Cornelia Frances/Anne Robinson versions. Or anyone from Wentworth really.

Each to their own but Eddie can stay on Hot Seat. This show requires a sense of authority which he doesn’t have (and neither does Magda) and we don’t really want him to be ‘Eddie Everywhere’ again.

Too many Dick jokes for one episode.

That I would love to see. I enjoy watching the British version on weekdays when I get the chance.

We all know what Seven did when they commissioned a local version of The Chase and now I can’t see why Nine can’t do the same with Tipping Point.

I honestly don’t know who could have helmed this show in today’s age.

Maybe because Nine doesn’t want to overexpose the format and drain out any appeal of the British version by doing a local one?

Maybe because the audience who usually watches the UK version in the afternoon is different to that of a primetime audience (demographic-wise)?

I know a lot of people 60+ enjoy Tipping Point bit I did describe the show to a co-worker of around 30 years of age and he said it sounds quite boring and pointless.

Sam Newman! But then I think the bloke can barely read to save his life…

He would’ve been better off as a contestant and be made to do the ‘walk of shame’.

There was already talk of Magda not being able to improvise, she would have been even worse.

would be a polarising choice, Gretel Killeen, she can balance stern with improvisation.

Could do the job without even blinking.
