I don’t think it’s all that surprising that the 20 year old version is better. Australian TV networks and producers have been making quality TV since the start of the introduction of television. This remake only highlights that to me. Just because something is made now with better technology (bigger staging, in widescreen or HD etc) doesn’t mean it will be better. Big Brother for example is a shadow of its former versions; arguably TV dramas of the past were better than the current lot and there are plenty of game shows from the past that rival the current versions. And don’t get me started on news!
This is free to air TV (and FOXTEL too) in general these days.
It’s pretty much about making TV as cheap as possible in the fight against the likes of Netflix etc that can spread their production costs across a much larger international audience than what Australian TV networks can.
Ratings were good.
I hear that one of the problems during filming was Magda could not improvise and it slowed down filming.
if you think the ratings were good i would hate to think what you think bad ratings number
For a show at 9pm on FTA it was good. Demos could have been better.
it rated poorly ,simple as that
It had a laugh track why? I heard that Mad as Hell on the ABC has a studio audience this year, surely it cannot be COVID19 related?
If the show has a chance the producers need to listen to the public feedback and make some changes before the next episode.
BBC guidelines.
All the eps are already done.
I thought it was just ok but the contestants felt way too dumb and on too much red-cordial for a quiz show like this. Some of the really bad stuff could easily be edited out by next week and I agree with everyone’s comments:
- Remove the fake laugh track ASAP. It doesn’t need it at all.
- Remove the echo for Magda’s “The Weakest Link” bit
- Stop cutting to other contestant reaction shots as much
Do we have any idea how many episodes were shot?
I did like seeing some of the contestants reactions though - they echoed what I was feeling as the viewer.
I felt the questions were very uneven in difficulty level from one question to the next which frustrated me.Magda is not the right choice of host for the tone of the show. Either they needed to lighten it up and go for fun comedy with the quiz intertwined (changing the DNA of the show) or have another host that maintains character and is believable in the stern vibe.
While I was hardly expecting MAFS-like ratings, Nine should be embarrassed that last night’s debut of Weakest Link 2021 couldn’t even outrate a fairly niche program on the ABC such as Love On The Spectrum.
I actually wouldn’t be too surprised if Nine pulls The Weakest Link off-air within a month.
An expensive way of getting sub-500k viewers.
If the show is all in the can it’ll get played out - networks have largely given up on post-9pm anyway. At worst, shunted to a multi-channel.
It is actually decent ratings for a 9pm program. It wouldn’t rate higher than Celebrity App.
There was a lot of negative feedback on social media, even before it started.
I didn’t think Magda was so bad.
The canned laughter and horrible echo are still there (they actually showed up in the first 10 seconds of the show). Now they have got her closing one eye when she says the Weakest Link that just looks wrong. The corny jokes are better though. They should have just skipped the pilot and started off with a more practiced, natural feeling episode.
I get that she’s playing a role, but that one eye thing is a shocker. If it was a fun, comedic role she probably would’ve been really good but she’s not known as a strict teacher type of person so I don’t know why they thought she’d work out. Cringeworthy tv.
Last night was definitely better than last weeks pilot, but the whole thing is still very naff. #sadface
Anne Robinson used to always wink one eye at the end of every show in the UK version. Perhaps they got that as an inspiration?
This whole thing still sucks. Doesn’t feel genuine, reeks of producer intervention with tension and Magda playing up. I know game shows (all TV shows really) have to evolve with the times but I wonder if they went for the old Cornelia/Anne Robinson approach of nastiness from the host and being a serious game show would it work better?
