The Voice

Yep the article on the 9Now website clears a lot of things up - guest mentors will be different for each round and Kelly and George will still be at the shows in their red chairs (I guess guest mentors will only be there for the coaching sessions?).

Anyone want to take a guess as to how they’ll be doing the finals this year? Usually there’s 5 shows which they aired every Sunday, but last year they fast-tracked it so the 5 shows were done in 3 weeks. It sounds quite difficult to fast-track it like they did last year, seeing as they’re only filming the playoffs this week so they don’t have a lot of time to pre-record and edit before it airs. I highly doubt they’ll be doing live shows either (except maybe the grand final) - it would be too difficult with Kelly and George coming in via satellite and there’s so many technical issues that could arise if it was done live

The benefit to them fast-tracking last year was being able to prerecord all but two of the final shows. I think with Kelly and Boy George remote it will actually be easier to prerecord rather than doing lots of live shows, so I imagine they will keep it all the same or very similar to last year. Although shifting to two nights a week earlier than they normally do could indicate a shift to one just one night a week later (for the finals).

They’ll definitely pre-record the finals (potentially even the grand finale?). The time zones for LA and London are completely different so it’ll mean Kelly would have to stay up to film if it was live (7:30pm AEST time is 2:30am in LA and 10:30am in UK). I’ve heard Ninja Warrior has been filmed but I guess it’s just Nine’s decision whether they want to draw out the season longer and only do 1 episode a week.
Mind you, the ratings haven’t been amazing this season - Masterchef’s resurgence + Big Brother reboot has taken some of Voice viewers (both episodes this week were in mid-800k’s) and Kath & Kim last night in place of the usual Tuesday ep of The Voice only did 380k.
I think Nine will have to keep it to 2 nights a week to have some sort of chance of competing for ratings and also maintain their audience.

This Sunday - rumours are Guy gets to turn around for a contestant when his team is already full. Right at the end the producer says ‘You’ve breached the rules’. Question is whether or not they’ll let him have an extra contestant.

I was thinking that it may have been to do with Guy pressing the block button when each judge is only allowed to use it twice.

I thought this was a singing contest.

Read up. We’ve acknowledged it as much about the judges as it is the singers 100 times. Especially in the Blinds.

I don’t understand how they’ve blown up what is probably an error on Guy’s part (forgetting that his team is full) into something bigger than Ben Hur - especially considering what the likely solution will be (the contestant not being able to pick Guy to be their mentor)

A good promo?!

How does he forget that his team is full? Watching the last episode he constantly talked about only having one spot left, not to mention the big celebration all the coaches do (they literally announce “My team is full!” to the audience).

That would be the easy solution, but a few people on social media pointed out that in the promo Guy was the only one who turned (the chair lights up white and his is the only one at 0:26). It would be awfully unfair to the contestant to not get through because a coach did turn his chair. The problem is that no-one else turned so they couldn’t just exclude Guy from the singer’s options for a coach - Guy is literally the only option.

I was just putting out a theory as to why he would turn around considering everything you said

Ah - didn’t notice that.

Agreed - it’s almost like the producers think no-one will watch if there isn’t some kind of drama between the coaches. Also notice how the ad for this week features no singing at all - for a supposed ‘singing show’ the promo looks more like MAFS with all the bickering and controversy

Links can be made. Show wasn’t thought through. Clearly trying to cause trouble as it seems they believe their audience is low, when really it isn’t. This will make audiences stray away.

The ‘drama’ was probably done because the last few episodes in 2019 weren’t interesting - in the last episode only Guy and Delta had spaces left to fill and it was drawn out too much. By spicing up the last week of blinds they can keep viewers watching and hopefully keep them interested to watch the next round.

The funny thing is The Voice draws in an older audience - it beats Masterchef in total viewers however Masterchef has been winning all the key demos, which is more important to advertisers. Now when you add Big Brother to the mix, which appeals to the younger demos, The Voice is struggling to keep up. It’ll be an interesting few weeks to see how The Voice goes - Masterchef wasn’t really affected by Big Brother’s premiere this week, but we’ll see if The Voice will be losing any of its audience this week to BB.

Producers probably told him to in order to create a moment of drama.

cause its a load of crap! any other season they’ve been blocked out from pushing the button.

If they continue to do that I’ll expect viewers to be fed up and tune out. Viewers can’t and won’t always be enticed by such unnecessary drama leading away from the show’s purpose.

I can’t argue with that - the drawn-out pitching and long ad breaks are killing the momentum of the show. The blinds are my favourite part and usually I tune out after. It’s also quite tempting to switch over to Big Brother - 7 have implemented shorter ad breaks (1-2 mins long) and don’t stop for ads until at least the first 25 mins have aired. Not sure if anyone else has switched over as well, but I find it much compelling compared to The Voice and the fast pace keeps me interested rather than constantly scrolling through my phone when I’m watching The Voice.
