The Project 🪦

I don’t mind this idea, can’t do worse than what they do now and would probably get a lift off Masterchef at 7pm leading out. Their Satuday schedule could start at 7pm then too.

It is a shame if The Project is being canceled

While I think it’s had better days, I did appreciate the format for being a more casual alternative to the news bulletins and if the rumours are true of a move to Hard News, I don’t know if I’ll watch.

I agree. I won’t be watching.

I think it’s a real shame to lose a format like the project of our screens altogether. I’m hoping that the show remains in the 7 PM slot, with a light entertainment/panel discussion focus of the days key headlines, and celebrity interviews. Whether that is still the project (produced by rove) or a new format, I don’t know. But if the project goes, there will literally be no daily prime time vehicle on Australian TV for the promotion of key things like new shows, celebrity visits, or discussion of key, cultural events.
I know a lot of people are advocating for the show to go, but I do think it will leave a massive void so I’m hoping for a shorter, sharper project in a different time slot than it currently is.

I’m sad as it has a large editorial staff and gives comics a casual writing job as well. Lots of work for Melbourne crews and staffers. No doubt the next thing will come from Sydney too.

It’s a shame they couldn’t keep it for weekends, focus more on the comedy and entertainment side and maybe have a Saturday edition too. Not to worry, I’m sure it’ll be back in a year or two when this ACA clone inevitably flops.

Personally I’d like to see 10 continue producing something out of Melb and think there’s a place for a post 9/9:30pm comedy panel show done well.

Could also air four nights a week Mon-Thur for a tight 30 mins, and be a decent and consistent lead-in to the Late News.

Would soften the blow to continue the long standing working relationship with Roving, plus work for the crew, comedians etc who work on The Project currently.

Also would still work as a vehicle for interviewing talent, network cross promotions, has a longer shelf life than hard news, repeatable content etc.

Plus it’s something different that’s not being done currently, that’s the space 10 should be in.

Those roles were 95% dumped when The Project had some redundancies with casuals getting let go around the country.

I wonder when we will hear any official announcements from 10. They declined to comment in all stories I’ve read. If The Project was safe they’d say that.

Declining to comment is the kiss of death when rumours abound of a TV shows cancellation.

The shows format is far superior to ACA, TT, 7.30, Spotlight etc

It has been a real point of difference

But does feel like it’s peaked and had its day

6 hours is a LOT of airtime to fill. A lot.

Can’t imagine whatever format replaces it will do much better

Maybe just be cheaper

I tend to think the moment of celebrity interviews and content has come to an end - they don’t move the needle given the accessibility of overseas interviews/viral clips and social media - plus celebrities aren’t put on the pedestal they once were.

They can work in a three hour breakfast show but when they are a major ā€˜drawcard’ of 60 minute show, that hurts it.

Agree. 6 hours of air time is alot to fill. Plus the 6 hours thats repeated at approx 11pm each nigh too. So 12 hours in total.

Unfortunately the show has been running on auto pilot for some time, it’s been a long time since either a story or a funny moment really cut through. I don’t think Sarah was the right choice to co-host, she’s a fine presenter but doesn’t have the levity or irreverence needed for the show. You could see she was heavily influenced by working in conservative tabloid commercial newsrooms in QLD and NSW.

Sad to see Como lose another show to Sydney. Melbourne’s morning TV was always so much more unique, fun, clever and inclusive than the slop made in Sydney. The same will happen to whatever replaces the project.

I really don’t see there being any audience in another national news show full of content that is relevant to no one. Ten should be spending the money to do unique local late bulletins that go live on Paramount + without ads and ten play with ads and then immediately on demand.

Whilst it’s disappointing that 6 hours of live content is going, 10 need to be mindful that they need 6 hours of new Australian content for these crucial time slots.

It needs to be broad strategy and not just sticking in a half hour show four nights a week.

Where else are 10 talking live to the audience?

So we really need to see what other content offerings are coming from this.

The Project has had a good run but I think the brand has been damaged after the whole Lisa Wilkinson media debacle .

But in essence none of the new co hosts really jelled with me. Having Sara and Waleed there helped though

The current affairs show that they are planning isn’t something I would even bother watching. Prefer my current affairs without the fluff on ABC. But I will see what they do in this space.

maybe theyre just cutting it down to half an hour and pairing it with this new show?

@blackbox says that the whole show is going:

Me neither. Admittedly i only watch The Project sporadically but I’d have no interest in watching a straight current affairs show in its place.
