But then again, back in 2022, they had Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Hellier announced for 2023, then they left, along with Carrie who had already announced that she was leaving.

Pretty sure the Press Release at upfronts indicated a new host with new captains.

Or he could announce who the new host is - maybe some sort of handover type thing 
But his appearance probably has something more to do with his new show which starts next Tuesday on SBS:

His SBS show is really brilliant. Much better than the current ABC one.
