Does Pete have an obvious successor? I always thought it would be Tommy but with Carrie leaving for their radio show I can’t see that happening now. Don’t see any of the other fill ins in that chair as a permanent host.
Feels like maybe 10 have new plans and have given them the option to stay on in a new format/role or depart….this is an opportunity for 10, with news saturated from 3pm everyday, they could really provide a point of difference at the start of prime time…
I wonder if Sam Pang could be joining the show. It could explain why Chrissie, Sam and Browny isn’t coming back next year.
Sam’s already doing HYBPA? and The Front Bar.
Is Tamara who was EP of Studio 10 now in charge of prime time there? I would say she’s planning on bringing Sarah Harris along for whatever is planned.
And? Both are only one episode a week. He could definitely do this show a few days a week.
Pete:
and Waleed, I can’t wait to see what you and Kyle and Jackie O do with the show next year
He probably could do it seeing as HYBPA? doesn’t usually start until May.
well peter hellair did announce his leaving
Is it, though? This way it allows them to give it an effective reboot rather than have any transition drag on for months.
Statement from 10:
Peter Helliar Steps Down From The Project.
Network 10 can confirm that Peter Helliar will step down from The Project . His last episode will be on Wednesday, December 7.
Peter made the announcement tonight on The Project . Please click here to watch it.
Beverley McGarvey, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, Paramount Australia and New Zealand, said: “It’s incredible to think Peter Helliar has been part of the 10 family for 22 years.
“Of course, we all remember Pete delivering his comedic brilliance on Rove Live back in 2000, but also his role on the much-loved AFL show, Before The Game where his alter ego Strauchanie was born.
“Pete’s talent at 10 has also extended behind the camera as writer, director and star of How To Stay Married which ran for three seasons, plus his comedy shows Skithouse and Cram.
“One of the most loved and respected comedians in the country, Pete joined The Project in 2014 filling the comedy seat, a seat which he has held for the past eight years. Given the breadth of his work, it is amazing that we have been lucky enough to have him sit at The Project desk four days a week.
“Pete has made the decision to take more time to dedicate to his first loves – writing and stand-up - and we look forward to our continuing relationship.”
As I said above it would be a big adjustment for viewers to have three new faces joining the team on a regular basis all at once. Very risky and could cause a lot of people to switch off if it doesn’t work.
so since peter fords predictions are coming true. will Waleed be next?
I wouldn’t mind seeing Tim McDonald and/or Melanie Bracewell in expanded roles with the network. Hell, dump The Project and all the negative baggage that comes with it and run The Cheap Seats five nights a week.
It could, of course, no change is guaranteed success. But everyone (and ratings) seems to be screaming for change to happen to the show. So now it is.
+1 !!!
New hosts. New set. New graphics. Reimagined format. It’s time for The Project 3.0.
Working Dog could and should produce this.
There was a 3 month difference, Hughes left in December 2013 and Pickering in March 2014.
Very risky business going on at 10.
They’ll need a stellar lineup next year to make up for the loss of 3 major presenters of this show.
As above, Sam Pang would be a fantastic choice, as would Tim McDonald or Melanie Bracewell.
