I’d agree here. People won’t switch off 7 and 9 for a nightly current affairs show on 10 and having it at 7pm will see it beaten by ACA which is tried and true and already rating highly.
Nightly current affairs won’t work.
Why not?
I think most have thoughts of George Negus show at 6.30 back in 2011.
Didn’t really set the world on fire.
A lot has changed since then.
Firstly, TT and ACA aren’t in the slot anymore.
Not sure. But a high end national current affairs show going up against two local news shows would be a massive uphill battle.
Also worth noting, George Negus was originally moved from the 6PM slot because it couldn’t compete.
It would be going up against fluff segments, sport and weather if it aired at 6:30pm.
You could grab those who aren’t interested in those segments. My Nan always turns over when the sports start.
They were moved for a reason. The Project is already too serious.
Can you please start expanding on your comments? It would be much easier than having to ask you to explain.
They weren’t moved because they weren’t rating so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. They were moved (or axed in TT’s case) because the news was extended.
And the news was extended because it was more popular and what the audience seemingly wanted.
I find The Project is too serious as an alternative as it is. This goes down the wrong route IMO. The more I hear about this project the more I think that these new hirers are the wrong fit and a waste of money/resources.
Could they moved it to the daytime??
From 5:30-9am.
They can ditch Sam and 4th panelist and then bring in a newsreader, sport presenter and weatherman or woman
So keep it the same but make it completely different?
Well Ten just signed Denham Hitchcock and he doesn’t do light stuff
Maybe they’ll cut The Project to 30 mins and strip all the serious news out of it (that’s what Rove wants isn’t it?) so then the serious stories from The Project (aka Hamish and Waleed’s stuff) will go to Denham’s new show instead.
All of Sam’s comedy clips could just move to The Cheap Seats which often overlaps already in some of the clips they show.
Then what’s left for The Project, entertainment interviews of actors and musicians? Might as well get Ange Bishop to host it.
There is a middle ground between George Negus’ SBS style show and The Project. It’s ACA/TT style tabloid current affairs.
Whether or not that’s going to happen with the members they are recruiting is dubious, I’m still not convinced they are dumping The Project. It could certainly do with a format refresh as it hasn’t changed much despite the declines, and casting should probably be looked at again.
Rob clearly doesn’t like The Project or the supposed slant of the shows viewpoint, but he does know people inside the network, so let’s see. But why would some of their hires want to move to 10 to do A Current Affair 2? That’s where I think it doesn’t make sense.
I think this is where the confusion is.
Are there actually two different programs?
A 60 Minutes weekly type show with Denham and the team and then a nightly ACA show that’s entirely different to what Denham, Amelia and Bill are doing?
A comedy and entertainment only project isn’t the worst idea leading into prime time tbh.
Completely agree. Rehash the project into
An entertainment comedy show (like an early nite tonight show) and strip the news out of it for the new show. And send waleed with it
Where do you all think daily comedy comes from if not from news events of the world.
Isn’t that kind of what it was when it started (as The 7pm Project)? I think if it’s staying, maybe it should go back to half an hour. It feels a bit bloated at an hour. If they do go down the road of less news, more comedy/entertainment I wonder if the current hosts might go and the show essentially becomes Rove Live 3.0?
