They need to do something - but may not look to axe it altogether, 10 could continue working with Roving to produce a much cheaper light hearted later evening panel show with less emphasis on headline/hard news.
The Australian was reporting that 10 is looking at launching a current affairs/magazine type show - maybe they might be looking at that to fill The Project’s slot.
Obviously it’s all speculation, and as @yellow_sock mentioned, it’s been rumoured before that the show is going to be axed, but then nothing happens.
The new investigation team was stories for the main bulletin which they said was competition for 60 Minutes and the new current affairs show was a seperate program entirely.
Yeah I wouldn’t read much into the statement 10 provided as they’re always creatively worded to distract from the truth, that and the spokesperson didn’t even get the name of the new division correct.
The statement goes as far as confirming the new internal division, but obviously they’re not ready to confirm who’s heading it up, what exactly it’s for etc other than saying it’s for cross-platform coverage and further investment.
My understanding is that the new division that is being stood up, will likely offer longer form in-depth content to the main bulletins, but it will absolutely be the driver for the new as yet confirmed news magazine program.
I could be completely off the mark, but until we have official announcements everything is speculation.
Going back to a slimmed down, snappier half hour project mightn’t be the worse thing. Cheaper to fill half an hour and cross promote the prime time lineup, big brother talent etc. Not sure people really have the attention span to sit through an hour of the project these days, it all feels like an effort.
Seeing is believing as far as The Project being axed. I would like to think that The Project could potentially air mid evening or at either 3:30pm or 4pm before Bold and the Beautiful, if it was to be moved from 6:30pm.
I would think that Seven would leave H & A at 7pm AND Nine would leave ACA at 7pm due to the fear of the unknown. I believe the days of axing the 6:30/7:00 evening show because a show isnt winning its slot is gone due to fear the replacement might rate worse. I could be wrong though
Cheng Lei will be on the show to promote her Sky News documentary (which premieres on Tuesday, June 3) and her new book A Memoir of Freedom (published by HarperCollins on Wednesday, June 4).
Yeah, I could see them returning it to half an hour thus saving costs. Not sure a new nightly current affairs show would fit well in the demos leading into reality but happy to be proven wrong,
All speculation at this time, like usual. But is picking up more fraction. So could happen in coming months.
Inside Media’s speculation saying: The Project costs a lot of money, and that the new A Current Affair type show @ 6.30 (with Amelia Brace, Denham Hitchcock and Bill Hogan) - is cheaper to make, since 10’s news crew will be attached to it. The new show has that potential of it being a half-hour show.
The Project feels like it has probably run its course but I’m not sure a new 6:30pm public/current affairs show is exactly the ticket - up against the news hours.
