Kitty seems to be making more regular appearances on the show again, this seems a little too prepared to just be an “update”.

There was a weird one the other night as well, when all they had in the first segment was an interview with a woman who swam the English Channel, and a feature (ad) for Delta Goodrem’s new song. I get they assume people have watched Ten News First beforehand and perhaps want something other than the headlines again, but it was a pretty weird way to start the show.

Have you watched The Project for the last few years? They usually lead the show with these kinds of entertainment events / awards segments when they happen, in the same way an FM radio show might.
I’m glad you noticed, after being around for so long a change can be perceived as weird, but without change any show will never move forward or evolve. I’m sorry you thought the Delta story was an ad, I saw it as powerful content from someone who had documented an enormous struggle and beaten the odds. It was an inspiring story and such a positive way to open the show with 2 stories of achievement when we are surrounded with so much negativity in our news cycle.

And I suppose it was big news because it was an awards show that was done virtually, due to social distancing. There was no theatre audience and performers performed remotely. The first really big event of its type and newsworthy for how they pulled it off.

I guess the Delta story felt more like an ad to me, as the vision that was shown was a three minute video produced by Delta’s team, rather than a Project produced story that you would normally see in that kind of situation. And especially since I was expecting the headlines at the top of the show, or at least a newsier story (like tonight with the media laws for example) which is why these stories so early in the show felt weird to me. But fair enough on your last point too, opening the show with some positivity.
Benjamin Law is just fantastic. They should definitely consider him more often for the Project or even look at giving him his own show on the network.
