Perhaps its not a mistake but the style they want to take to stop interviews being boring and dragging on?

But most of them are cut short when you want to see more. If they had the interview earlier (in the second half hour) they could easily cut them short if they are boring and show the filler for the rest of the show.
On Friday night the show didn’t start with normal headlines, the death of singer Prince was the only headline and they discussed his death until the first commercial break.Gorgi read the other news headlines after the break, as always this show handles big news stories extremely well.
Hugh Riminton will be hosting with Gorgi this Friday night.
Surely there’s someone other than Riminton available. His priority should be the 5pm News which is struggling. It has become a novelty to actually have Riminton and Sully at the desk together.
Why is it that the Waleed chair always seems to me a male. The Project often shows support for equal opportunities for women but it does not lead by example. I don’t have statistics on me but it would have to be around 50% of episodes with a 3 male, 1 female lineup. I don’t think I have ever seen the reverse in 7 years on air.
There are plenty of capable women at ten Sarah Harris, Jessica Rowe, Natarsha Belling. They should take priority over parachuting someone like Hamish McDonald in, like what happened a few weeks back.
But by the same token, the show has never had a male newsreader ever fill in for Carrie. Kate Langbroek has filled the male chair in between the gap between Charlie and Waleed.
I think having one lead male and female anchor works well for balance. Lately there has been plenty of female 4th panellists such as Fifi Box, Gretel Killeen, Jennifer Bryne, Meshel Laurie, etc.
But I do agree Riminton is a strange choice. Elevating Lehmo to the host chair normally works well for a Friday alongside Tommy Little.

that makes 1 female chair and 2 chairs 99% male. (and one that is 50/50), not balanced.
there are 4 chairs, not 2. it would only be balanced if the other 2 chairs were a 50-50 split, which is not that case.
I’m not suggesting there is anything wrong in general with this kind of situation. There are shows like the footy show which seem to apologetically nurture a boys club culture, and if that is what the audience wants then that is a choice they can make. but The Project is different it is not a good look to have so many feminists involved in the show passing judgements on other organisations while they cant manage simple balance themselves.
Why is it that the Waleed chair always seems to me a male.
Not sure what you mean. Do you mean the person sitting in Waleed’s chair is always male?

They have had a female sit alongside Carrie but very rarely.
But by the same token, the show has never had a male newsreader ever fill in for Carrie.
Yes, they’ve never had two male newsreaders.
I don’t think it really matters. The Project is probably the least sexist program imaginable on commercial FTA so I think it’s pretty irrelevant. There is always some form of balance, and the show keeps the genders set for certain roles for familiarity and archetypal reasons.
The same argument could go for Studio 10. Again a show as far from sexist as you can get.
Is it just me, or are The Project showing more vision of Carrie reading the news headlines rather than just having vision showing?

They’ve changed the way they present some stories in the headlines. Rather than four or five stories, they interrupt them now to discuss the big stories. So maybe it feels like you see more of Carrie now.
Devastated Wife And Mother Karin Whittington Speaks To The Project
A Television Exclusive. Tonight, 6.30pm
Her Australian Husband Remains In Beirut Prison Following Failed 60 Minutes Abduction Attempt.
The wife of Adam Whittington, the CEO and founder of Child Abduction Recovery International (CARI), who organised the failed 60 Minutes child recovery attempt in Lebanon, speaks to The Project tonight at 6.30pm.
Karin Whittington is devastated that her husband, a former Australian Army soldier, has been left behind in a Beirut prison while the mother of the Elamine children, Sally Faulkner, and the four members of 60 Minutes were released.
In this television exclusive, The Project speaks to Karin from her home in Stockholm, Sweden, where the family resides. We find out how Karin and her family are coping while her husband remains behind bars, his fate resting with the Lebanese judicial system.
Speaking about her frustration with Nine Network and 60 Minutes, Karin claims: “They’re at home with their families and they haven’t spent one thought of me and my family. I think they should take responsibility to what they got involved in. You can’t just dismiss and say you don’t have any responsibility. Buy themselves in and buy themselves out. It’s not fair, I don’t think it’s fair at all.”
Tonight on The Project, we take a look at Karin and Adam’s side of the story and what can be done to have Adam released from prison.
Sad to see Barry Humphries as Dame Edna being rather awkward these days. He used to be outrageously funny and quick on his feet but looks like he’s past it these days. Also a shame that he’s sold out so much now and using his image to flog everything from ice cream, NewsCorp and now pyjamas.
That was painful to watch.
I agree and it is not as if he is really good. I think it is better to get Brad McEwan to co-host, in this instance, as he is already in Melbourne and has good experience and talent in this sort of genre. Rob Waters could cover for him on TENFAF Sport.
Peter Helliar’s budget wrap up package tonight had me in stiches, in particular the cameo part by Grant Denyer was great.
Interestingly there was a wide shot of Paul Bongiorno sitting next to Adam Todd at one of the tables during lock-up. I know he’s just a contributing editor but it’s really a shame that TEN didn’t have him filing reports on the evening during the Budget Special as a one off.
The crosses to the Sydney studio look so much better than any that come out of Melbourne. The clarity of the subject and animated green screen background simply don’t compare.

Both unexpected and yet well deserved.
