I know that - so I assumed that if they were to fill in on The Morning Show at some point, they’d have to take the morning off their radio show/finish radio an hour early in order to make it to Martin Place in time for TMS.
Matt De Groot has his own show on Nova every morning at 5am then is part of the Fitzy and Wippa team from 6-9am. He also often does the news breaks until midday.
Currently on paternity leave for a few weeks.
Wednesday 16th September -
Samantha Brett presented news updates.
Further to this. The Morning Show may be starting to suffer effects of a lower lead in as its numbers are trending lower while Today Extra looks more competitive. Extra won on Monday and TMS looks to be heading for its lowest audience since February (though there are only 3 days of numbers in so far).
Thursday 17 September-
Angela Cox is back presenting news updates this morning
Why doesn’t Ann Sanders present them?
Because it’s too heavier a workload for her considering she already does the Morning News and Sydney Afternoon News.
The reason she stepped down from The Morning Show News Updates back in 2015 was because she took on the Sydney Afternoon News.
Even though the Sydney Afternoon News didn’t begin until July 2017?
My bad, I should’ve said the national afternoon news, as Sydney didn’t receive a local 4pm bulletin on Seven until July 2017 when Adelaide got their local bulletin.
All good.
Still interesting how Seven usually get a separate presenter for News Updates during The Morning Show. I rarely watch any television at that time of day but I’m pretty sure Nine usually get whoever’s reading the Morning/Sydney 4pm that day to do the news updates during Today Extra.
Yeah it is a bit odd.
Although, that methodology only applies to Seven on Fridays when Sally Bowrey does TMS News Updates, the Morning News and Sydney’s 4pm News.
But that all might change when Ann Sanders retires some time down the track, and whoever is appointed the Morning News and Sydney 4pm News presenter may be happy to take on The Morning Show’s news updates as well.
Because she already has a long day presenting the Morning and Sydney Afternoon News on Mondays-Thursdays.
When she took on the latter bulletin from Melissa Doyle (which at the time was national) in mid-2015 Ryan Phelan took on the news duties on TMS.
This year Phelan was dismissed in June and now Angela Cox reads the news updates on Mondays-Thursdays and Sally Bowrey reads them on Fridays in addition to her other duties that day.
Don’t get to see TMS very often because I’m working but I’ve been watching this week. Like the addition of the desk at the top of the show, and I love how they use the space, screens and backdrops creatively.
Surely Sunrise could so something similar for some segments. Particularly an engaging graphic/ animation of the logo on the screens behind … but not that horrible little strip they used a while ago between Sam and Kochie…
Friday 25 September-
Angela Cox is hosting with Larry.
Nice to see her coming in on her day off.
I’d say Angela is becoming the Deb Knight of Seven!
I have a feeling that Larry might be away this week given his most recent Instagram post showed a kangaroo, which indicates he’s probably somewhere near bushland and away from home.
If Larry is away, I’d like to see them use as many different people as possible throughout the week to fill-in as a means of seeing who is the number one person to fill-in in the long term.
The only in-house options at Seven IMO are Mark Beretta, Matt Doran and Michael Usher. Two outside options are James Tobin and Shaun White.
I would personally like to see Luke Jacobz hosting with Kylie.
He is on Seven’s books now (as he is back on Home and Away) and IMO a gun at live TV.
He differently has filled in before, in 2014 IIRC.
@FootyKick Larry just had a weekend away as he is hosting today.
Also Kylie is back after having a day off on Friday.
Friday 2 October-
Samantha Brett is presenting news updates this morning.
