The Masked Singer

Queen is Kate Miller Heidke 100%. On top of sounding like her, the Tasmania clue likely refers to her vocal coach being Tasmanian as well as her having performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

For Puppet I’m guessing Mark Holden too. The carnations and his work now as a barrister seem to match the clues. The 1964 mention I think might be about when The Beatles came to Australia and influenced him to get into music as a child.

For Frillneck, I think it’s John Steffensen. His parents are South African and he’s been quite outspoken on a lot of issues.

For Queen, I think it’s Kate Miller Heidke. She was expected to be known for her Italian work refers to classical training. Awarded with the rarest of metals is her Gold for Album sales. The 13 times shr has been the bridesmaid but never the bride is her ARIA nominations but never won.

I would have thought the map of Tasmania with tinsel on it reference would be the fact she has a song called ā€œI’m Growing a Beard Downstairs for Christmasā€

 Good detective work. It has to be.

Yep. Also the tinsel is cos her vocal coach from Tasmania has a Christmas song. The baguettes are reference to Kate being able to speak French. Conquering the world she’s done Eurovision, Coachella etc. The career path change is that she’s classically trained but did pop music.

I’m getting Dami I’m vibes from Dragonfly but not too sure.

Puppet Mark Holden seems like a likely choice. The whole something happened in 1964, if you look him on Wikipedia it talks about in mid 1960s he got into music. It could also be a Beatles reference.

Goldfish Christine Anu? She sung My Island Home at the closing of Sydney 2000.

I thought that at first but clues made it seem more like an athlete.

Can someone explain to me why this show features any known musicians at all - or even those that are known in other fields but are known to have a voice at all? Shouldn’t part of the journey be about car-crash moments and singers learning how to improve their craft as the weeks go on?

Last year had way too many celebs with distinctive voices. I’d much prefer to hear from those that we’ve never heard sing before. It would make the guessing far harder.

So by that nature Mark Philippoussis was a good choice. But the problem is - he sounded reasonably good but simply couldn’t compete with other voices from the show. Most of the others last night from my predictions are all people that are already known singers.

Cathy Freeman anyone?

Were the crowd last night the production team? Similar to HYBPA.

Overall, I thought it was a great first episode back.

Yes it was. It was actually part of the question Urzila posed on HYBPA which followed the show.

The show has already been moved from Sundays. It will now air Mondays and Tuesdays with Family Feud now going to Sundays. 10 are obviously worried it won’t perform as well as last year against stronger competition.

I’m quite sure that Family Feud will get slaughtered by The Block there.

Probably but its probably better than The Masked Singer getting slaughtered there. They are trying to protect their biggest, most expensive franchise.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t The Masked Singer actually doing well in the ratings against The Block last year?

They shouldn’t be. The Block is tired and old and The Masked Singer was very competitive against it last year.

Family Feud on the other hand, 10 should be worried about it on Sunday against The Block.

As hilarious as Urzila is, her guesses are ridiculous tonight. She needs to find the right balance. Fast.

Last year it was Hughesy being stupid. Obvs with no Lindsay they’ve switched that up. It doesn’t work though.

I agree that Wizard sounds like Isaiah Firebrace and the clues fit.

My guess for Kitten is Natasha Stott-Despoja. Being judged by the public because she was a politician. She was known for wearing Doc Martens so that fits the shoe clue.

My guess for Cactus is Lucy Durack. The Western Australia sticker on her suitcase for where she was born and the UK flag for where she has worked. A bit of a princess refers to her role in Shrek as Princess Fiona.
