With Mel leaving the network we will probably see Angela Cox as the main fill in for Michael…or even taking on Monday nights which Mel did.
Also wouldn’t be surprised we will see Matt Doran as a fill in if Michael and Angela are both unavailable from time to time.
She was also very good for this program. Sad to see her go.
Weather segment last night, no names for the country forecasts:
Only a graphics error as Michael still read them out with the right towns.
Any idea yet who will be presenting this bulletin tonight? I would assume Angela Cox but I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael is called in.
Angela Cox is presenting tonight.Looks like she will now present every Monday replacing Mel
Former Sunrise reporter David Woiwod is reporting from Wisconsin tonight over the police shooting and subsequent riots.
This is not the first time Woiwod has appeared on The Latest; he reported from New Zealand on the volcanic explosion last December.
Wednesday 2 September-
Angela Cox is presenting tonight.
The Latest reminds me a bit like the 2012 revived Ten Late News with Hamish MacDonald. Which is a good thing as that Ten Late News bulletin was great to watch.
But then it gets cancelled a few years later…
The weather graphics didn’t show up at all last night, the shot stayed naked while Angela read out the forecast.
Angela Cox is presenting tonight.
Blooper during live cross tonight. Angela was talking to Estelle Griepink in Melbourne when the cross cut to an unprepared Sarina Andaloro in Sydney before crossing back to Melbourne (full screen).
Also tonight
Wednesday 9 September-
Angela Cox is presenting again tonight.
Thursday 10th September:
Angela Cox is presenting The Latest tonight.
After standing for the opener, Ange is now seated at the desk and graphics on the screen to the right hand side.
Love the way The Latest attempts to be creative and keeps evolving.
However, despite all the nice images, I think the bulletin needs a rethink if it is going to survive in the ratings battle that is currently losing to Nine’s late news on a regular basis.
While, I personally like the look and flow of the bulletin, I try to look at it from the point of view of someone who just wants to catch up on the latest news.
From a competitive aspect, Nine have significantly improved their bulletin and it incorporates lots of live crosses around the country, but visually it has a more traditional presentation. The content is just as good now as The Latest but presented in a more familiar way (and in a much brighter studio).
I wondering if the dark look of The Latest with its complicated multiple screen delivery of most stroies is only appreciated by news junkies.
I also have a feeling that the sitdown discussion with network finance editor Gemma Acton is a point when some might turn off. It seems to interrupt the flow of straight news and seems to be pre-recorded. I’d put it later in the bulletin
I like it.
I think the problem with its ratings is as simple as 7’s overall lineup rating lower than 9.
It needs a good lead-in. Seven’s lead-in for The Latest have been rating poorly against Nine’s equivalent.
A consistent time slot (yes it’s a rare commodity these days) would be nice too.
The key to the late news is that it has to be fast-paced.
So I reckon in 2021 (or even before the close of the year), Seven should ditch the opener and just go straight into the first story, as a way of keeping the viewers from turning of their TV’s.
It also needs a regular timeslot. Ideally, it should be Monday - Thursday, 10:00pm-10:30pm.
They also need to better promote The Latest during the 6pm news. Why on earth do they often only include “Tonight” in the banner during the preview for The Latest at 6:50pm each night, and not tell us what time it will be on?
