Monday 1 June -
Melissa Doyle presenting tonight.
Standing presentation for the opener and main story tonight which is the protests currently happening in America. Special background graphics are also being used
Melissa Doyle. Class act. Just saying.
No desk in tonight’s bulletin.
IMO they should just scrap the desk for The Latest. It looks so much better and dynamic as a standing presentation, although I don’t know if Mel & Mush would want to stand for 30 minutes a night
How much of The Latest is actually live though? They could probably sit between the long interviews they have pre-recorded.
In contrast to the Sydney bulletins, it’s crazy just how much better The Latest utilizes such a ‘simple’ (not saying that as a criticism but rather an observation) set.
From the lighting to taking full advantage of the three big screens and the camera angles used (eg; the panning shots used into and out of ad-breaks), the program highlights how well the set can be used.
A desk is back! The round Sunrise table (not really a desk) with 7NEWS logos around the edge has come in halfway through the bulletin for an interview in the studio with Gemma Acton as well as for a cross to Tim Lester.
I prefer standing presentation, although I do like the round desk for one on one interviews.
I am sure it’s not going to kill them to do a show standing up, they’re not 90.
It must be really disheartening to work on this show. There seems to be a huge amount of work and thought put into each bulletin, but then to find the time that Seven programmers have given to your show each night. Tonight and on Tuesday at 11pm while not considered important enough to even make the schedule on Wednesday then next week dropped from Saturday, the show’s highest rating timeslot.
That’s Seven for you. Virtually ignoring anything of value whilst prioritising rubbish at the same time.
Agree.
Agree - they put limited run 4th place drama bomb that has no future on the network “absentia” Tuesday at 10 and push their own show and the best quality news service on TV - the latest - back to 11 and for what gain?
Weds the latest is 10pm after front bar however
I’ve said all along it needs a flagship Sunday 930
And 10pm every other night. (10.30 if - footy night)
Well… That was awkward… So much of this show is pre-recorded, it’s embarassing, but tonight it was a live element…
I don’t think Gemma Acton realised her segment was being broadcast live and fluffed her lines and instead of powering on, she put her hands on her head and sat back in her seat and asked Angela about what the right word or acronym to use was… So 7 cut the feed and went to a commercial break. So messy. This was in Melbourne by the way, I assume they will have it edited for other states.
I have resisted the urge to comment for weeks on how amateur this program is coming across. But tonight takes the cake. So much of it is pre-recorded and they fail to disguise that, as hard as they try. Then one of the few live elements they do, turns out to be a dogs breakfast.
The quality and standard of this program has dropped ten fold since it started. Just all of a sudden not airing on some Wednesday nights, like last night, without any explanation. How do they possibly think they can generate a following or regular viewership?!
Why is it not live, so we know?
That is odd because the director should just shoot down Gemma’s ear that they’re live. Maybe they were recording something for the Sydney/Brisbane bulletin and play-out took the wrong feed?
