SHELTER ORIGINALS: PREFAB FUTURE HOUSE - WORLDWIDE PREMIERE
“There’s a real potential for the culture of housing in this country, to adapt to the future of housing in this country.” - Peter Stutchbury.
With Australia in the midst of a severe housing crisis; its younger generation being priced out of the traditional concept of owning their own homes; and the cost of living skyrocketing, what if a new home could be built carbon neutral or even carbon-negative; architecturally stunning; seamlessly woven into its natural surrounds; and put together in just a couple of weeks?
SHELTER ORIGINALS: PREFAB FUTURE HOUSE explores the incredible and ground-breaking collaboration between Oscar Martin and Peter Stutchbury Architects to create a sustainable, prefabricated and affordable house in its entirety.
After running pop-culture website Pedestrian for 15 years, Oscar Martin left his role in the media to become a builder. Working on site throughout his 2 year work-placement, he couldn’t help but notice the huge amount of wastage in the construction industry; and set out to create more efficient and cost-effective methods of building houses.
“I’ve always believed that an architect’s success should be measured on how much waste leaves a site,” says Martin, “and if you designed a house on those principles, that’d be a great start for sustainability.”
Discovering the ingenuity and assembly speed of Prefab walls, Martin approached Peter Stutchbury Architects, and together they began to explore how to implement the learnings of Stutchbury’s 40 year career into a modern adaptation of prefab housing; and create a flexible and beautiful prefab design that could adapt to its environment.
Using Cross Laminated Timber construction, an innovation from one of Australia’s most celebrated modern architects, they created a number of prototype houses in the NSW countryside, each assembled within a couple of weeks, and with absolute minimal wastage and environmental impact on the area, all while retaining the functional and aesthetic needs of a modern home; to create what could be the house of the future.
“We’re trying to provide a beautiful building, that can adapt to its settings - that start’s people thinking: ‘how big does a house need to be?’” - Peter Stutchbury
“A small footprint can actually feel really big.” - Alejo de Achaval
“A holistic way of looking at the next process of living.” - Peter Stutchbury
“Architecture needs to be conscious of the impact that the building industry has on the planet.” - Alejo de Achaval

DESIGN TO CREATE COMMUNITIES: PROSPETTIVA OLIVETTI
After the death of its iconic founder and industrialist Adriano Olivetti in 1960, the management of his company sought to spread his ideas and philosophy on design and its integral role in forming and strengthening community to the rest of the world.
PROSPETTIVA OLIVETTI embarks on a journey through Olivetti’s iconic buildings, spanning the 1960s to the 1980s. As it explores showrooms, factories, and headquarters designed by international architectural masters, this feature documentary weaves Olivetti’s legacy together through personal narratives and archival material.
Reconstructing a dual perspective of Olivetti’s historic global impact and the forward-looking vision embodied in these structures; the film showcases the essence of Olivetti’s past achievements while contemplating their enduring legacy and future possibilities.
“The presence of the company abroad was through architecture; its business card.”

REBUILDING FROM DEVASTATION: THE GRAND PLAN
What happens when a beautiful but derelict hotel building collides with a passionate team of restaurateurs & entrepreneurs, with a stunning vision of reopening its doors?
This New Zealand documentary series tracks restaurateurs Nick and Sarah, along with entrepreneurs Graham and Stephen, as they navigate the tumult of four earthquakes to repurpose a worn Christchurch heritage hotel into a modern gastropub.
Initially derailed by seismic events, their vision pivots after a devastating earthquake. The focus shifts to rebuilding their damaged Lyttleton restaurant, despite aftershocks, the birth of their second child, and bureaucratic hurdles.
Witness their tenacious journey to turn adversity into triumph and realise their revised dream amid the challenges of post-quake reconstruction.
“There has to be a plan. Fail to plan; and you plan to fail.”
“Often the heritage uses are the best uses for each of the buildings.”

Comparison of subscription costs to various streaming platforms in Australia
I have BeIN Connect, Stan, Paramount plus subscribe to NHL.TV and NFL Game Pass. NHL.TV returned last October after a 2 year hiatus after being dudded by ESPN locking us out of games.
Out of all the ones that I subscribe to is Disney Plus. Cheapest one and always find something I can watch. I tried Netflix their content seems weird and way too much focuses on crap import from Australia and Japan aname (which is weird genre to begin with)
Apple TV+ doesn’t produce as much new content as the others, but stuff they do make is usually of a very high quality. I’ve watched a bunch of their shows over past 12 months.
They also have zero library content or aquired content
I think Prime / Paramount offer the best value propositions I think relative to price and content offering IMO, only just started getting into Prime but have long used and enjoyed Paramount.
Binge is okay, and Netflix still represents fairly decent value for money and probably equally watch these the most. Even though I have access to Stan and Disney+ I very rarely watch anything on there, not really for me.
AppleTV+ I only subscribe to watch TMS, but think for what they charge vs offering probably represents the least value of all streamers. Just exorbitant pricing like some of their products.
One major thing that I don’t like about Netflix and some other streaming services is that they get contant that is available for free and produced by the ABC then promote it as premium content. Or what’s even worse is if you have the basic Netflix plan you’re basically paying to watch content with ads when it’s available ad free. Don’t get my wrong the content is good but why do they need to add ABC content?
What annoys me is when they mess around with the content and what is available on the platform removing seasons of shows without notice. I am a big fan of Air Crash investigations and you could watch many seasons on Disney+ apart from the latest season. When I last looked it had only a few random seasons. I resorted to obtaining the seasons in other ways which I should not have to do.
Omg yes. I’m not to sure why they think this is a good thing to do but they all seem to do it now. It was only a few years ago they would always give notice of when content was leaving.
Never understood that either . You can get most ABC shoes for free through Iview. However I suppose from an international audience perspective thet the only way to get them dor international reach is to sell to Netflix and Paramount P.
Yeah, it really only makes sense if your over seas but over hear there’s not much point. Unless its shows that Netflix and other services buy as exclusives.
The shows are often acquired for international markets, being available ad free here is just a bonus. Additionally licensing differs between BVOD and SVOD which makes these acquisitions possible.
More sales = more money for production companies and hopefully royalties to those appearing in the shows which in turn keeps people employed and shows being made.
Not quite correct.
These shows reach whole new audiences on Netflix. Many people consume Netflix that don’t consume ABC. Library content often makes up some of Netflix most watched shows. It’s these comfort classics that people love and reduce churn. “New to netflix” means it is often new to millions of Australians
A lot of younger Australians don’t watch ABC. Or FTA. And Netflix’s audience profile is significantly younger. These shows reach new people on Netflix.
So I finally got around to trying out Brollie almost two months after it launched. I must say it’s actually better than I expected. It has a lot of different content that you can’t find anywhere else and is only on Brollie.
