The increasingly crowded streaming market

Ten and all the other tv networks would like nothing better than going back to archaic week-to-week release. This is what happens when television executives are hired to run streaming services. They don’t know any better.

Thank god for Netflix.

If you allow people to binge you only get one month’s worth of subscription/commitment from them.

Spread it out over 8-10 weeks and they have to pay 2-3 times more to see the same show.

You can still binge watch series when they are completely released though lol

Only reason Stan does it , would be because the shows air on cable tv in the US so are aired weekly . I assume.

Apple and Disney do it I guess as they want to retain their subscribers to their relatively new services… it’s annoying when Solar Opposites the whole season is available in the US on Hulu Season 2 but here they do it once a week.

As many of you have long predicted NBCU are looking for options for Peacock

Seems like (assuming all things are equal) it would make the ‘most sense’ for NBCUniversal to partner up with Seven for Peacock because since it would be the network’s only SVOD service, it’ll be their sole focus.

By contrast, there’ll be an inevitable competitive tension with Stan/Binge should NBCU decide to go with Nine or Foxtel.

Listening to the the tv blackbox podcast… I think they’ve got something wrong about the peacock service. They’re going on about the branding and how NBC would want the brand internationally. That is incorrect. In Europe peacock runs as a joint venture with viacomCBS. So that point is moot you would think.

So yes seven could tie up with NBC but nine and fox may still tie up with peacock.

So in Europe is Peacock content on a different streaming service not called Peacock?

Only in markets where there’s no Peacock or Paramount+. In those countries it will be on the combined SkyShowtime service.

Its a little bit complicated

In European markets that Sky operate in, Peacock is going to be offered in conjunction with Sky and launches later this year - the remainder 20 markets are the Comcast/ViacomCBS tie-up that will be called SkyShowtime, launching next year.

Sky have a separate deal with ViacomCBS to bring P+ to the sky markets in Europe

Don’t know if anyone watched the Hey Hey special, but they announced that they have basically launched their own streaming service which is paid and free. It included the whole Hey Hey archive plus some other classic shows.

Yeah, this is definitely only for those who REALLY want to see Hey Hey content.

I think the site looks good, good luck to Daryl who is giving a really good shake in monetising all this content.

This has existed for a while I think? I remember seeing a good while ago, but the website looked a lot more aged. They must have put a bit of extra work into it to plug the special.
Can’t see who would subscribe to it for anything other than a little nostalgia kick.
Also, what new content are they even producing that they can add???
