Gillon McLachlan was not able to appear on the show tonight mainly due to the Hawthorn racist allegations controversy, but recorded a short message at the MCG following the AFL grand final entertainment press conference this afternoon.

However, Gil did appear on AFL 360 on Fox Footy earlier tonight.

Then, on Thursday, 24 November, Mick, Sam and Andy will be joined by former Australian batsman and 7Cricket commentator, Matthew Hayden, fresh off his coaching duties with Pakistan for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, alongside iconic West Indies fast bowler, Curtly Ambrose, to launch the 2022-23 Summer of Cricket on Seven, ahead of the highly anticipated Australia v West Indies Test, which starts on 30 November.

Molloy said The Front Bar team was raring to go for the All Sports edition, as he looked back on his favourite sports stories of the year.

“There are so many, but probably Tom Brady divorcing Gisele Bundchen is right up there. Good to know I still have a chance,” he said.

“Novak Djokovic missing the Australian Open was pretty massive, though I thought he could’ve been escorted on to the plane by a couple of ball kids.

“The SuperBowl half-time show with Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Dr. Dre and Mary J Blige was good, but I just thought it should have had Noiseworks or even a bit of Oingo Boingo. Missed opportunity in my opinion.”

Furphy fronts up to The Bar

The Front Bar returns live and free in February 2023 on Seven and 7plus

Following a jam-packed 2022 season, which covered a wintery edition, cricket, the Commonwealth Games and the AFL, everyone’s favourite sports show, The Front Bar, is set to return to the screens of Seven in 2023 with a fresh new beer at the bar.

In a first for fans, resident patrons Mick Molloy, Andy Maher and Sam Pang will be serving Geelong-born ale Furphy when they kick-start happy hour at the bar on Channel 7 and 7plus from Wednesday, 1 February 2023.

Making its triumphant return ahead of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season, The Front Bar will enjoy a mega 2023 with 37 episodes set to air across Seven with Furphy locked in as The Front Bar’s drink of choice each week.

The Front Bar host, Mick Molloy, said: “Furphy slid into my DMs, we hooked up and the rest is history. I’ve always been a fan of Furphy. It’s a beer. It’s from Geelong and…it’s a beer.

“It’s great to have Furphy on board. They had to pass my stringent taste test first, which went for about two weeks, but I have high standards.

“I have a reputation in the industry as a tough deal maker, but the free six pack eventually got me over the line,” he said.

“We wanted to change something, and once I checked that Andy Maher’s contract was watertight, we decided to switch to Furphy.”

It’s good promotion to emphasise “all sports” in the title. Might gain some interest for non-AFL fans.

How much promo time is it getting in the northern states?

I’m from Sydney, and i’ve seen a few ads for the show. Obviously not as many ads compared to Australian Idol. lol.

I was one of the 11 people who watched the show from Sydney over the last few days, so i dont know if it will still rate or not. I think it needs a little bit more promotion.

With Mick Molloy starting his Sydney Breakfast Show on Triple M on Monday, there might be more promotion there, i would imagine.

I would say it gets the same promo spots around the country at the moment.

The Front Bar’s grand reopening

The Front Bar returns live and free on Wednesday night on Channel 7 and 7plus

In exciting news for sports fans, resident patrons Mick Molloy, Andy Maher and Sam Pang will kick-start happy hour at 9.00pm this Wednesday night when everyone’s favourite sports show, The Front Bar: All Sports, returns for six weeks of national prime time shows on Channel 7 and 7plus.

Over the next six Wednesdays, a talented crop of Australia’s most colourful sports stars will stop by the bar to reflect on sport’s biggest and best stories of yesteryear and today, including:

  • Cricket icon, David Boon
  • Basketball legend, Lauren Jackson
  • NRL immortal, Allan Langer
  • Former world No. 1 tennis player, Pat Rafter
  • America’s Cup hero, John Bertrand
  • Socceroos coach, Graham Arnold

The Front Bar host, Mick Molloy, said he was looking forward to meeting with some of Australian sport’s brightest stars, alongside a new sponsor in 2023.

“Ex-legends of sport have so many great stories to tell, especially the ones they tell us in the green room after the show,” Mick said.

“We have a new beer sponsor this year. Furphy are on board, which is great. I tried to get my home brew involved but there were a couple of issues with the recipe. One too many flammable ingredients.

“This year we’re keen to be celebrating even more of Australia’s great sports stars, mostly so I can write off even more sporting events on my tax return.”

From next Wednesday, 8 February, fans of The Front Bar can tune into Channel 7 at 8.30pm (local time) for the All Sports editions. Viewers can also tune into 7plus for live and on-demand coverage of The Front Bar in 2023.
