The Footy Show (AFL)

Actually, now that I think about it, you’re right she may be nearly 40 but she’s not that old!

I think I misheard them perhaps referring to The Footy Show airing for 25 years?

nine has made a big deal about streaming both footy shows though 9now for fans in the states where it’s not screened live.

it suprises me that these are not shown on GEM in the other states. i would have thought that it would have been a lock to do so (if i recall they used to do this on 9HD years ago)

as an AFL fan in queensland i’ve stopped recording the footy show - it starts too late (11:00 pm at a minimum) and even with an extra hour recorded due to over runs on both i’ll miss the end of the show.

it also surprises me that this show is not shown on GEM here in Sydney. Surely they can air it live in Syd and Brisbane or at least at an earlier time to what is currently scheduled for Sydney. Its advertised for an 11.30pm start on Nine for this Thursday, but going by previous years, the NRL Footy Show will overrun by a good half an hour, pushing the AFL Show to around midnight.

Having the other Footy Show streamed on 9Now does not affect Nine’s TV ratings for the night.

And no ads too!

What is shown in place of the ads?

Something similar to this.

This show is just about unwatchable now that Craig Hutchison has taken over.
A humourless individual with no entertainment value.
Surely there must have been other candidates that would have complemented the show better.

yeah they are on The Front Bar.

I agree Craig is awful. Should have been Shane Crawford that took over or Matthew Lloyd.

Yep it was the worst decision ever made. They should have poached someone else from Seven or even let bloody James do the extra things that he wanted and remained on the show.

Couldn’t agree more. I think Nine has lost the plot with Craig Hutchison. The thing that came to mind was where he interrupts in an awkward way. It’s not just Hutchison. Sam Newman would have a negative reaction towards Craig and could spout a lot of garbage.
The axe will be close to the show.

How has the ratings been compared to last year?

Has dropped from 2016. In Melbourne approx 400000 tuned in to watch Rebecca Maddern’s debut for the show. This year, 199000 Melburnians had the TV on to watch Hutchison host the show. Hutchison has ruined not just The Footy Show, but hosting Footy Classified.
The chances for the show to be axed will be very likely.

All the media are describing Hutchy as a ‘mover and shaker’ of the AFL though, with his CrocMedia business.

I agree he’s pretty bad, but wasn’t it an obvious choice for Nine, as a long-time employee?

If you ask me, The AFL Footy Show really should’ve been axed years ago.

The same applies to the equally bad, if not worse NRL equivalent we’re subjected to up here in the Northern states.

Do they need a ‘mover and shaker’ as the host? The AFL Footy Show has never been about that.
