Tony Jones is the new Sunday Footy Show host.
I think he was dropped from the show years ago to make way for James Brayshaw, so interesting to see he’s back after JB was shown the door at Nine…
Interesting to see him taking up the role again after all these years.
Yes, TJ hosted from 2002-08 IIRC. Then JB took over for a few years. He was replaced by Simon O’Donnell and then more recently “Hutchy” took on hosting duties.
Congrats to TJ, back where he forged a great career 
However I’ve always thought he could have done so much more, if the network let him.
Stephen Quartermain was somebody I always compared him to & was literally his counterpart for around two decades (sport presenter). Now hosting Ten News Melbourne.
However Quarters called the AFL for a decade, called many AFL Grand Finals (including 2005 & 2006), hosted Winter Olympics & Commonwealth Games & travelled to countless Olympics over three decades. He also hosted basketball, swimming & many other sports and events. As well as working with some legends such as Bruce McAvaney, David Johnston & Mal Walden.
So I feel Ch 9 let TJ down, but he is very loyal & could possibly take over from Peter Hitchener one day. Sunday Footy Show & 3AW morning program fill-in are two roles which he will continue to do well in.
Herald Sun reports Richmond star Alex Rance, who appeared several times on the show last year, will be increasing his on-air presence this year as guest presenter and will be appearing in a new regular segment.
Former Port Adelaide captain (and one-time firefighter) Kane Cornes has joined The Sunday Footy Show as a panellist.
The new season starts Thursday March 9 according to the Herald Sun.
Would be interesting to see the ratings for 2017 in Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth as well as new host Craig Hutchison.
New Segments include Grassroots Heroes and No.1 Footy Fans as those have Followed the AFL and Country Leagues for Many Years.
That’s a colossal issue with the dying AFL Footy Show, not just Craig Hutchison. Dave Hughes played a spray towards AFL clubs that was out of bounds. Rebecca Maddern own agenda on Geelong Cats would spark a huge reaction towards the audience. Billy Brownless had mammoth dramas with Gary Lyon last year. Shane Crawford would sit there and just talk about his own team and Sam Newman gets more and more deranged with every passing year. Sam Newman is the worst one in the Footy Show group.
I think the axes are prepared for this show.

Looking forward to watching the footy show 2017 I only watch it for Sam Newman’s antics he’s amazing for his age I feel Sam is the glue that keeps the show together without Sam it won’t be the same .
Craig Hutchison should do ok but he just needs to relax more not be so serious .

Sam is Sam yes his comment’s etc are soo last century but I hope if I ever reach reach age 71 + I would still have a sense of humour to adjust to the technology of the day
His outing with Alex rance catching Pokemon priceless had me in stitches for weeks .
Alex rance will have a great future on the footy show in coming years he’s great talent I just feel Shane crawford & billy brownless need to step aside .

Also, from tomorrow the show will be streamed live on 9Now from 8.30pm AEDT every week so fans in NRL regions won’t have to wait until late night to watch.
Rebecca Maddern was talking to Denis Walter on 3AW radio, can’t believe she’s been in the media for more than 25 years, 14 of them as a senior journalist/presenter at Seven.
I can’t believe it either, unless she started when she was about 14.
