The Footy Show (AFL)

The one big thing Seven has over Nine, is the AFL… they have the telecast. Nine don’t, so I doubt anyone who is a part of that will want to jump ship to host a show once a week?

There is only one man who can save the show and ensure its renewal in 2018 and beyond. Eddie McGuire.

I always thought as long as Sam is on the show it will still be good and rate but after losing Garry and James I think Sam has lost a lot of the chemistry and to be honest I don’t watch it as much as I use to. I never watch the NRL show its been terrible for years I did catch the Front Bar show and I liked it. Reminds me of Sam Santo and Ed those kind of shows.
Why would they give Hutchy a host role?

Herald Sun is reporting that Eddie McGuire will be returning to host the show alongside Rebecca Madden and Sam.

I find this hard believe. I’m listening to SEN now and it’s just speculation at this stage. I’ll be flicking on Triple M at 3pm to see what JB and Billy have to say about it.

At the end of the day, I don’t think it’ll matter.

The coverage on the Herald Sun website is absolutely ridiculous.

By the way, they say it’s believed he is Nine’s highest paid star, earning more than Karl Stefanovic. Disgraceful if true.

They also answered my earlier point, according to insiders, apparently it’s caused a rift between execs in Sydney & Melbourne (the former, rightly so, wanting Sam gone).

Also, what’s this mean for Hutchy? He could be disgruntled & leave the network altogether (he’s hosted Footy Classified since its inception in 2007). Maybe Nine will increase his salery?

In regards to Eddie returning, this is what everyone wanted, but will it make a huge impact? Most still dislike the crude nature / disgusting gags / Sam Newman.

Seven’s momentum won’t stop.

If this is all part of some sort of contrived PR stunt, it sure has got some attention for The Footy Show. A decision to change hosts would not likely have been taken overnight and after Mr Newman’s performance, all eyes were on Nine today.

It’s smart. Definitely will have ratings up next week if he’s returning. I actually think it’s a good idea, no reason really why he can’t do the show, plus his production company would be wrapped to run it.

Still, they need a lot more than reverting back to history to regain their stake.

Peter Ford just said on 3AW he’s “seen the contracts” & has heard about “discussions for a few days”.

Apparently it wasn’t intended to start until a few weeks, but may be brought forward to next week (given the news and awkwardness).

Eddie McGuire’s production company to now produce.

Presser at 4pm at the MCG.

There’s lots more messy stuff, than what I’ve just said too.

But can Eddie save it? This looks like a last ditch effort to revive it.

Nine News Now had ’ Breaking News ’ about Eddie’s return to the show.ACA tonight will also report about his return.

EDIT - Also 'breaking news ’ on Melbourne Afternoon News with the live announcement coming up.

Also the top story on 9news.com.au.

I reckon Eddie’s will just have positive effects in terms of ratings in the short term future but it will (hopefully) well and truly die of next year.

I’d hardly be surprised if McGuire is one of the highest paid media personalities in the country, when his commitments for Fox Footy, Triple M and the Collingwood Football Club are taken into account.

Of course ACA would have a report about it, they love cross promotion for Nine Network programs!

Yes, I agree.

It’s being reported that the show will be taking a 2 week ‘recess’ before returns. To be honest, this decision could backfire spectacularly for Nine since it gives The Front Bar a ‘free hit’ at at further growing it’s audience by getting people who would have watched TFS to sample the show.

With all this dividing many (some like Eddie but others don’t, some like Sam but others don’t, some like the humour but others don’t, etc)

It could have a positive impact on The Front Bar.

I imagine Seven execs are sitting back amused at all of this, as someone mentioned earlier, they have the AFL rights after all.

Any promotion about “AFL” or “The Front Bar” is only good for them

News Corp reporting that Newman wanted to appear in a dress last night making fun of the AFL affairs scandal. The program producers said no so Newman got the sulks. Network bosses in Sydney apparently want him sacked, but Melbourne management want to keep him.

In other words, we’ll save a stack of money

I was talking about Sam Newman.

Eddie doesn’t need to be paid… He’s a multi-millionaire!
