The Footy Show (AFL)

How does this guy stay on television? Is there a three strikes policy?

‘He is considered deliberately controversial’ according to Wikipedia. Hopefully he is removed from the show soon or the show goes itself!

I personally thought Sam Newman has been considered to be “deliberately controversial” for more than 20 years now!

In any case, I still maintain the opinion that both versions of The Footy Show need to be axed.

Yuck. Axe him or axe the show IMO.

Worse than Boris Johnston then…

At least Boris has a understanding in the LGBT :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow: community.

Sam Newman or John Newman as I should say from now on should be kicked out of the Nine Network and quite possibly as @SydneyCityTV said, the show should be axed.

I think the only people that watch it now is Bogan’s.

Edit: Not the first time that John Newman has done the same, at least Paul Henry apologised with a fact when he done the same…

Sam newman has been involved in a number of controversies during this time at the Footy Show. His sexist, disgraceful jokes were well out of bounds. That’s the main problem during the Footy Show.
The show should get the chop next month.

Why next month? Why not now?

Both versions of the Footy Shows should get the axe. The NRL version should have gotten the axe a decade ago due to terrible ratings. Just wish people stop voting for this show to win at the Logies! The AFL version has been on a decline in ratings and is on its last legs.

I wonder if there will be any media discussion regarding Sam Newman’s performance (or lack there of) during tonight’s show?

Not saying much for the whole program is not going to help with the ratings battle vs Front Bar over on 7.

Wouldn’t this make people happy? When he does speak it’s pure shirt or insulting.

Rumor is Nine management warned him pre-show not to say anything controversial about the recent AFL executives sex scandal or this weekend’s Gay Pride game, and he wasn’t happy with being censored hence the petulant attitude.

Sam’s silence even made the front page of today’s Herald Sun.

Its been suggested that Sam has been told this will be the final year that he is required on the show. If true it would explain a lot about last night.

How much is Nine forking out a year to keep him?

I’ve heard around $1m!

You wonder what Nine HQ in Sydney makes of all this too, whether they leave it up to senior exec Ian Petterson (Nine Managing Director, Melbourne) or whether HQ has any say.

I mean, this is an expensive show that was actually pulling 400k+ regularly, with major sponsors such as Nissan, Sportsbet & more.

Throw Hughsey into Sam’s chair and there’s an instant $1mil saved at Nine. Headline should have been “Old man chucks hissy fit because he can’t say anything homophobic or sexist.”

Removing Sam Newman would well and truly kill off The AFL Footy Show. It’s pretty much on its last legs already thanks to Thursday Night Football and recent host changes.

Or use some that $1m to try and poach someone?

Pete Helliar? Sam Pang? Lawrence Mooney?

The reason why Front Bar is doing so well, is because it’s fresh, light hearted and not as controversial. People are sick of the sexist boys club on TFS, even the people who are long fans of it - its stale and old.
They will try to poach someone from Seven I reckon.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Bec and Hutchie are gone next year. It was a bad decision giving Brayshaw the flick. They should of allowed him to have flexibility in what he wanted to do outside the show.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they also brought back the “bar” with Hughsey or someone behind it.

Front bar is clearly superior and it costs probably a fraction of the Footy show to make.

Wonder if they’d consider trying for one of Seven’s AFL team?

BT (he loves himself, he’d have a ball )? Cameron Ling? Hamish McLachlan?

They’re probably all on elaborate contracts though.
