The Doctor Blake Mysteries

The ABC knew more than Seven?

Surely if it looked as though to Seven, that there’s truths to the allegations and any legal paths may find him guilty or convict him, they’d at least consider a re-cast, before looking at axing?

You can’t recast a show like that when he is the central character.

Look, it’d be difficult, but not impossible. It’s at least an option, if McLachlan’s position became untenable? For all the viewers and cast/crew if nothing else.

It may not be going ahead at Seven?

I wouldn’t read into it any tom dick or Harry knows people can make up stuff just to get money hope he accuses the women for harassment then

What if they’re telling the truth?

And there’s hardly any money in it for them. Work will suddenly be a lot harder to come by.

And two out of three of them are high profile actresses already so you can’t see what they have to gain from lying about a fellow actor.

Although I do have to wonder why Christie Whelan Brown chose to work with Craig again on The Wrong Girl after that bad experience. But maybe it’s due to jobs being so few and far between in the industry that she was believing she wouldn’t be placed in that sort of position with him again.

Herald Sun reports an internal review commissioned by December Media (which makes The Doctor Blake Mysteries) has revealed there were no findings of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct or workplace bullying against Craig McLachlan, however there was a bawdy behind-the-scenes culture on the show which could have caused offence.

Nadine Garner has said that she enjoyed going to work on that set as did every crew member and every person who passed by. The show’s workplace culture was “fun” and “joyous”

Herald Sun reports Seven has given the green light for a new Doctor Blake telemovie minus Craig McLachlan and it will be retitled The Blake Mysteries. Pre-production starts pretty soon to be followed by filming around Ballarat. It will be interesting to see how his character’s absence will be mentioned in the telemovie.

That’s a stupid idea.

If he’s not in the movie, then his name shouldn’t be in the title. If they want to do that then it should be a spin-off with a different title or forget the whole thing.

The Blake telemovie will receive funding from Screen Australia and Film Victoria.

The Blake Mysteries delivers for Victoria

Film Victoria and Screen Australia have backed December Media and Channel Seven as they announce a new direction for The Blake Mysteries.

The 90-minute telemovie will now skip three years ahead and focus on Jean Beazley (Nadine Garner) who will take on the central role in the drama.

Federal and state government support of the popular and successful Victorian-made series will deliver strong economic benefits to regional Victoria and screen businesses, whilst shoring up employment for approximately 200 Victorian screen workers.

Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley said: “The extraordinary success of this project provides enormous economic and cultural value to Victoria – and I am delighted to see that further support of the series will sustain hundreds of local screen jobs."

Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher said: “Our commitment to The Blake Mysteries is an investment in Victorian screen businesses, crew and associated services who rely on this production for employment and skills development. We support new and diverse storylines and have great confidence that December Media, who mirror our commitment for ensuring safe and supportive workplace environments, will produce a high-quality and entertaining telemovie.”

Film Victoria recently released its updated Victorian screen industry Code of Conduct. The updated Code reflect a zero tolerance approach to unsafe workplace practices and behaviours including discrimination, harassment and bullying.

Screen Australia matched Film Victoria’s investment in The Blake Mysteries, in an out-of-rounds special funding commitment.

“Screen Australia is generally only a direct investor in early seasons of television shows, however due to the prospect of the Blake franchise not proceeding, and the resultant sudden job losses, in this instance we will fund the telemovie as a one off,” said Sally Caplan, Head of Production at Screen Australia.

“It is essential for Screen Australia to support the cast and crew in this unique situation, and there is no doubt audience demand for this Australian story remains. The Blake Mysteries will offer viewers the chance to see this beloved tale through Jean Beazley’s eyes and we’re proud to support this new direction.”

The Blake Mysteries is a December Media and Gambit Media production for Channel Seven with principal production investment from Screen Australia and Film Victoria.

Is Channel 7 still going ahead with the other three telemovies or is this now suddenly the final one?

I’ve read it. That funding from Film Victoria will only cover one telemovie, but seven commissioned four. What’s happening with the other three?

Are 7 going to renege and cancel the series?
