The Cheap Seats

My family personally loved Sunday night takeaway with Julia and Chris but it flopped
Hard as well wonder if it would have legs for Saturday nights during the year when ten don’t have soccer?!? Or perhaps on Fridays as a living room replacement?

No. Again, reasons he isn’t bigger than he could have been.

Do you want to share it or are you just going to be cryptic?

No changes to next week’s line-up.

We’ve Saved You A (Cheap) Seat On Tuesdays.

The Cheap Seats. Every Tuesday 9.00pm On 10 And 10 Play On Demand.

It’s not another episode of NCIS , it’s a fast and fresh new comedy format that has revived the 9.00pm timeslot.

Making Tuesdays great again, The Cheap Seats hosts Melanie Bracewell and Tim McDonald blitz through a comic whip of the week for all those that don’t have the brain bandwidth to stay on top of the pandemic panic, Olympics tension, and even the correct pronunciation of our Australian premiers’ surnames.

The Cheap Seats has the week’s news covered with the help of showbiz guru and radio announcer Mel Tracina, and the only guy we could get on short notice, and sometimes sports expert, Titus O’Reily.

That explains a lot…

It’s a shame Tony Armstrong just signed up permanently for Sport on News Breakfast because he could have been great on The Cheap Seats.

I am sure a 5 day a week permanent gig on an established is much better than a once a week gig several weeks a year on a new show finding its feet.

But, I am sure if he wanted to he could have done it. Or if Working Dog wanted him.

Of course that’s a better gig but I’m just saying Tony Armstrong is exactly the type of guy they should have doing that Sport segment. He knows his sport but he can do the fun stuff too.

I finished the show on catchup yesterday. Quite enjoyed it and the 38mins went quickly. The Titus part was ok, it doesn’t bother me he is older, just he seemed dressed oddly with that 50’s ? style hat and the segment seemed a little flat.

Pretty telling that the press release says every Tuesday, they must be pretty confident / committed.

You need to be when you’re promoting something. You can’t say “we might around for a while”. You have to sell it hard.

Sure, networks are often overselling (and underdelivering) the shows they’re promoting. I just think it’s interesting it says every Tuesday, they could just say ‘Tuesday’s at 9:00’ or similar like they usually do.

Anyway, if they’re committed to it and the show can evolve and grow then it’s definitely a good thing.

Hopefully, networks would know not to include an apostrophe in Tuesdays at 9pm @killy06!

Autocorrect got me there.

That old style hat is his trademark so it would have seemed odd if he wasn’t wearing it though

I feel I’m alone in saying that I enjoyed Titus on the show and thought that his presence was a point of difference from the other presenters that worked well. If his performance was ‘flat’ I imagine he will settle into it more and be more natural in the future if he’s allowed to continue with it

You’re not alone. I thought he was fine but the rapid fire delivery from Mel and Tim in the opening segments made Titus’s more natural pace in the sports segment seem noticeably slower.

I guess the issue is, not is Titus talented or not (I don’t rate him, but that’s beside the point), but there are comics who could deliver sports headlines with more punch, in a way that suits the style of the show better. Dave Thornton, Nick Cody, and Harley Breen are just three names that pop up straight away. Plenty of others, including female comics.

He’s not that bad and really they have to work with whoever is available to do the show (not to mention there’s no guarantee of success if they replace him with someone else)

Replacing interesting and quirky people with generic ‘punchy’ types just makes it like every other boring show on TV in my opinion

That’s not how commercial TV works, it isn’t community radio.
