I really can’t believe it’s taken me so long to watch more than a few minutes of this show but this year, HYBPA and The Cheap Seats have both become must watch shows for me each week. I’m going to miss them when they finish up for the year. Mel and Tim are great and I love the simple shows and this is certainly that. Have loved the recurring KFC gag for Tim and it must be working because every time he eats it on air I do start to crave it!

It happened again tonight during Mel and Tim’s chat with BMX gold medallist Saya Sakakibara. They showed the start of the gold medal race then Tim said “that’s all we are legally allowed to show”. The footage was taken from the Olympics YouTube channel.
They showed Saya in action at the Olympics in the intro (with a mixture of video from Nine’s live coverage and YouTube) and I reckon that was the limit.

I love the way that they can take the piss out of themselves when certain jokes fall flat too. It’s actually a difficult thing to do when there is that awkwardness of a bomb but all of them are able to carry through and laugh it off every time - and often use it as a recurring theme and set up for later jokes. A great skill that Mel and Tim manage to do quite effortlessly and the chemistry between them is fantastic for cheap and simple laughs.
