The Chase Australia

Great ep of The Chase tonight, even if a repeat (Friday?) Nearly $50k built, all contestants remained and a 17 step final chase (usually what I call the ‘pass’ mark to set-up a very competitive chase). With the new Canadian chaser. He got off to a flyer, as usual, but stumbled on the final few steps with push-back wins (and easy ones), losing with 1 step to go, needed another 3 seconds at least. It was a fantastic win for them, as Larry congratulated.

edit

Flashy new promo seen during AFL pre show’s first ad break tonight in Melbourne, “mega money spinner” (I think), I think they said ‘cash giveaway’ possibly? “The biggest thing ever seen on The Chase is coming” (I think it said), voiced by the unusual choice of Seven’s news & ca v/o Nick McKay - who I incorrectly in another thread suggested had gone (have heard him on news promos again the week). @TV.Cynic

Could be targeted well, given the market’s successful ratings over TP (even if narrow) recently and clearly their best market.

Seven could be seeing the show as a market and indeed network shaper, given it’s impact on 6pm > and prime time and influence to the wider network. TP pre-Olympics for months on end was clearly a last straw worry, so interesting to see this Chase effort, perhaps not seen since 2016 early days.

Another variation to combat Tipping Point? Feels a little unnecessary given TC seems to be fighting back again after the Olympics.

Would be interesting if 7 are using this as a tester to see if they can make it into a prime time version since they can’t do ‘Beat the Chasers’ until the lawsuit is over right?

Another gimmick we don’t need. Yet. Wait til the new year if needed.

I’m trying to figure out where on earth they can fit this in, it’s a crammed show as is

No harm though seeing more money thrown about (where did Seven find it?), but I hope they leave the quiz element alone - the final chase is what makes the show

Maybe instead of the chaser setting the low and high offer, the contestant presses be the red button seen in the video and they get a random figure that’s lower/higher than their money round total? :man_shrugging:

Stop changing the show, not only have you lost viewers - now you are pissing off the ones loyal to you. Soooo much clutching, clearly throwing everything at return to winning the Pre-News…you would think that rigging a Logie would have helped more

They are actually winning some days now and it’s not a big margin anymore. So I don’t think it’s that bad for them to make changes but I don’t think they are losing viewers

Some viewers clearly returned to the show during the games when Tipping Point was off air.

Having the Double Trouble type stuff didn’t help the show at the start of the year, so when they saw the classic version was back, they stayed with it.

Yeh only winning bcos NINE shot themselves in foot by having live Paralympics on other channels at the same time, also ur right…not being on air would have giving Chase a leg up

IIRC the recent promos of “Mega Money Spinner Week” are either in the next week or two, however this week it seems to be “Tiger Mum Week” as she’s on all this week (3 new + 2 repeats).

Will the Money Spinner thing be like the Double the Chaser gimmick, where they’d hype it up, to only air a few of these episodes, spread out over a few weeks?

That truly is awful and misses the entire point of the show. Ridiculous Seven are panicking about being just a few thousand behind - stunts like this risk the show falling further behind and suggest Seven has no confidence in it’s product.

Plus since the Olympics they are now back in front IIRC, although these were probably filmed before the Olympics.

I think this idea and filming would have happened before the Olympics and before they got close (when they were 50-100k behind regularly). But it’s interesting that they are going to air it now. They could have potentially kept it back for another month to see if TP gets back out to their pre Olympics margin then try this.

The beauty of The Chase is the endgame doesn’t really matter if they’re playing for $1k or $100k - it’s the endgame which delivers the drama, not the prize.

This format basically allows everyone to take the low offer then gamble on the luck of the wheel at the end lifting the prize. It risks compromising the entire episode for a 30 second format point due to 7 wanting more people to tune in and watch their nightly horoscopes.

They should then include the horoscopes in the 4pm bulletin and then have The Chase filmed live - if your horoscope comes with something about a sudden increase in finances you know to go for it!
