I can see viewers associating the host with Melbourne/tennis/AO.
Associating, yes. Deliberately staying with the show because of, no.
Viewers watch what shows interest them, not where they are produced from.
Also agree with this. Seven is perceived as a very Sydney centric network at the moment. Yes they are trying with additional local shows, Talking Footy, Melbourne Weekender etc but this is going to take time to connect with audiences. GTV seems to be king at the moment.
Remember the days when all of 7’s kids shows were made in Brisbane? Didn’t stop other states watching them either.
Also take the Seven version of Weakest Link from 2001-02 - Sydney-based Cornelia Frances hosted the show which was produced out of Melbourne.
This became known on an episode of The Mole in 2002 where the contestants were flown from Brisbane to Melbourne for this special assignment.
The footy shows and local shows are the ones that matter to audiences not game shows or dramas.
Like 7 is currently doing in Qld for the Brisbane reveals on Dream Home.
Don’t agree with this. I think its been very evident that Melbourne prefer their own shows. Blue Healers, Neighbours, Stingers, Sea Change etc (and other locally made dramas) have always rated better in the southern market.
Or maybe because Melbourne is the biggest TV market in the country?
Most of those shows you listed were number one in most of the other states too so it only makes sense the Melbourne numbers would be higher due to more Melbournians watching tv.
It’s not a problem these days… there’s next to no local dramas on commercial television anyway.
I think there’s plenty of evidence that viewers will tune in to a show where there is a local association. Todd was a very strategic choice as host of the show and it has worked to get the Melbourne audience to sample the show.
Yes, and maybe also case of basing more television productions out of this market would help Seven If that’s where the money is for commercial television.
Well it clearly is… as people in Melbourne have vacated Seven lol
I meant whether dramas are locally produced or not
If I only watched shows made in Brisbane I wouldn’t have anything to watch
I disagree. If Seven pumped out a criminal drama based our of Melbourne, local audiences are more inclined to watch this over a NSWs production based on sunny beach.
Are more people in Melbourne watching Neighbours over Home and Away?
I think that’s an unfair comparison, from a primetime show to an afternoon show.
But historically Neighbours was dumped by Seven because it rated terribley in Sydney but rated well in Melbourne. Melbourne and UK audience held the show up.
And with Hot Seat, I think people in Melbourne didn’t really like Eddie too.
Behind the Scenes from Late 2023 filming via Instagram from the crew. Matt (Goliath) was the only chaser present in this photo. All other Chasers except the Beast had their cut-outs present.
Saw an ad for The Chase on the screen outside my local Woolies supermarket today. Big visual of Larry.
