The Chase Australia

Not consistently tho. It’s still close and not a blow out.

This week TP has won by 25k, 40k & 11k
2 weeks ago, TC won by 7k, 4k while TP won by 28k, 14k & 14k

You’re probably right. I definitely think it has the greater potential for longevity. And ratings haven’t dropped that much; it’s just that TP has attracted more new viewers.
Maybe just a cash comp for The Chase/7 News if they want to try and attract more eyeballs this winter when people come inside earlier .

Yep, there’s a reason tipping point is at 4pm in the UK and The Chase is at 5. So they just need to ride the wave and quit playing with the format.

I still think TP is in it’s honeymoon phase, and they have now started doing repeats as well already on Fridays. The Chase Australia has been around for close to a decade whereas TP has only been here all of 5 minutes. There’s no reason to hit the panic stations yet

With TP, if viewers hated it, following all the promos during the tennis, they’d have stopped watching after a few eps or a week or two… We’re now 3 months in and it appears to only be getting stronger each week, while Seven’s gimmicks seem to have back-fired. A little concern I’d say, yes if no need to panic yet. Otherwise why all the immediate reaction from Seven already. And this from a long-time Chase viewer FWIW.

Long time Chase viewer (and former contestant) here as well. The fact that Seven have had to introduce gimmicks like Double Trouble and the ridiculous canned reactions means that TP has definitely spooked them

Also getting all those “new” Guest Chaser episodes with David and Brandon filmed from 2022 and 2023 (from the large stockpile of episodes) whilst remaining at 3 new episodes a week probably didn’t do much for their ratings either.

Saying that the large stockpile of episodes in the can and refusing to play new episodes on Thursday does have a bit of ‘arrogance’ to do it. Repeats may have worked against Eddie McGuire’s repeats but aren’t working here against TPA new Thursday/Friday repeats.

The problem with repeats (for any show) is that it conditions the audience into thinking they are either a) always repeats on certain days and/or b ) “oh they’re all repeats” - when they aren’t

Which then shoots any network in the foot if they decide to put on new shows

What’s that got to do with anything? Hot Seat was also well established and winning the battle when The Chase came along, which evidently overtook it.

Yes, taking familar Chasers off air in favour of new ones probably wasn’t the move they thought it was.

Here in the UK now The Chase has been running 15 years and still feels pretty fresh and despite the same mechanics it feels like each episode is somewhat different. Tipping Point though is much more formalaic and repetitive - but annoyingly the end game especially can hook you in. It’s one of those shows where you moan how bad it is but end up watching anyway.

Looks like Channel 7 has skipped to the late S13 (filmed 2023) with the latest David/Professor episode aired today beginning with David having a intro in his 4th episode aired.

Whilst it may not mean anything to the average viewer, it will be noticeable to the regulars/fans when they switch between David’s 2022 episodes (where he is a Guest Chaser and his 2023 episodes where he’s in the lineup)

If they’ve so many stockpiled no excuse not to run new episodes at least 4 days a week.

Surely they should also look at returning Beat the Chasers - giving that another primetime outing is likely better promotion for the 5pm show than any of the stunts they’ve tried pulling since Tipping Point started. Just scrap the tournament format they used in their first series so each episode works as a stand alone like the UK version so they can drop it in the schedules as they see fit.

Great finish in the final chase today.

It was a bit of an odd finish tonight I thought. Mara seemed really upset. Whether she was just flustered that she got some very easy ones wrong and couldn’t then get into the groove or whatever but she honestly looked like she was in tears over this one. It felt a bit awkward - the bloke on the contestants side was definitely a good one for them to have but the bachelor degree one I was shouting out the answer for them and was surprised nobody got it!

Think she was flustered and frustrated, then extremely embarrassed losing with an original total of only 12 to get.

Intresting choice of Female Chaser episodes this Queen’s week so far with Anne narrowly losing on a 19 yesterday followed by Cheryl demolishing a 21-step full team with no mistakes tonight. Will be interesting to see what Mara serves up tomorrow.

Can’t believe she lost that (neither could she), she was flying, but got stumped by two late questions and lost with both push backs, then had to answer the final question on the final second but would’ve got it wrong anyway when she gave what would’ve been her answer after.

Wow

And we wrap up the ‘New’ episodes of Queens Week with a contestant bringing a $60K high offer back to the desk. Interesting choice to put the High Offer contestant episode on a Wednesday, but unfortunately with only 13 in the Final it was a typical Wednesday episode. Despite a few slip-ups from Mara, it was all over in under 90 seconds.

They split just weeks after marking their one year anniversary.
