The Chase Australia

I wouldn’t be surprised if 7 played back to back to back Chaser losses from Monday to Wednesday (from episodes filmed 2023 or even late 2022) and promoted/passed that off as “Big Money Week” in an attempt to regain ratings.

I’m waiting for some sort of giveaway for viewers with cash prizes to be the part of the next strategy.

That’s what I would’ve expected … and a tie in to the 6pm news. Code words etc

having “New Weekdays 5:00” in on-screen advertising is completely false if they continue to air repeats on Thurs and Fri

Fantastic final chase tonight. The money built, steps achieved and Issa’s faultless run-down. The contestants and questions were also good.

What’s the bet Seven cherry picked this ep for this week’s promotiom “big money” or whatever and to try and reel-in more viewers/stop any viewers bleeding to TP?

Agree. Was a great episode.

The Chase should try something like a jackpotting week, where if a team doesn’t win the cash one day, it jackpots and is added to the next day etc. Could make for a great episode by the Friday.
Run it over 3-4 weeks and promote the new jackpot amount each night, for the next day.

I think that works for other game shows but don’t think it would work for The Chase.

Grest idea!

I think they just need not to panic - twists and gimmicks are more likely to drive the loyal audience away rather than bring a floating audience back in.

The main thing would be to cut back on the repeats to at least match Tipping Point in terms of new episodes.

Agree with Brekkie above. I think Seven need to stop now with all these new chasers, specials and promos… It’s clearly a waste of money and not working. Going to have to have fingers crossed and let the viewers decide, just keep putting out well produced eps and continue with what has worked for the past 8+ years.

They dont need to hit the panic mode… yet.

The Double the Chaser gimmick didn’t add much value.

They probably just need to have no repeats on Thursdays, and reduce them on Fridays.

Especially now they have 7 Chasers plus the UK ones - means new episodes with them are quite infrequent. I don’t really think they needed either of the two new ones.

Agreed. For a few years they had just five - stick with that and rotate them five nights a week - I reckon audiences will like the familiarity of guessing who is coming up as the week progresses

There were two superb episodes this week with no bells/whistles showing that the format still works fine as is. I expected more from Double Trouble but it really was a bit of a fail

I think they’ll be fine, they are not too far behind Tipping Point.

I think The Chase has more longevity. As others have said, they just need to stick to the tried and tested formula. No gimmicks.

That gap is getting bigger and bigger by the day though.

The Chase just needs to tighten up a little bit with the formalities. Rather than Larry going all soft and cuddly in his way of delivering questions during the Cash builder and final chase he needs to do a Bradley Walsh and pump it out one after another. Otherwise no one takes it seriously.

The episodes with David was filmed back in late 2022 and Brandon’s episodes was in 2023. Brandon was an actual ‘Guest Chaser’ who came and went back home to the USA after filming his short “working holiday” stint.

AFAIK, there hasn’t been news of David filming episodes in 2023, and 2023 filming has been mostly with the 5 Australian Chasers, with a brief stint from Ann when she was last here in mid 2023.

It’s a bit difficult to get Mark back those days as he’s got a busy schedule across the UK and the USA (Masterminds), thus IIRC he’s willing to return to Australia, but needs to be notified well in advance and schedules need to line up for him.

It’s still performing quite strongly and the final chase puts them in front most days in terms of reach before the 6pm News.

I think they need to hold their ground - it is not a format that will tire in the same way as dropping coins in to a machine will.

They started with four initially. Friday repeats came in when Mark joined TCA, the one that “missed out” generally had the repeat slot. Then they had Shaun and Cheryl in the guest slots in 2018/2019.

The later became a semi-regular later regular when the UK Chasers weren’t able to travel out of the country during the Covid madness. Mark later picked up US jobs (ABC’s The Chase then moved to Masterminds after ABC didn’t renew his contract there) thus greatly reducing his Australian stints.

I agree it’s a strong show. Getting spooked and doing that double Chaser was a misstep though
