The Chase Australia

I reckon Seven could be countering against Tipping Point Australia which is expected to launch on Nine on January 29 (the day after the Australian Open concludes). Watch this space I say!

It is obvious that this is a move to counter Tipping Point. Seven would be scared - if TPA is anything like TP at 3PM then they’ll be extremely worried.

I don’t think they have anything to worry about. This is all about lead in to the 6pm news and TPA will only air in 3 states before the news.

Its a hot game in the eastern states at the moment, even if it is only 3 markets - Seven will want to keep any momentum they’ve got going (especially in Melbourne).

Has this been confirmed though? Just because Hot Seat airs at 5pm in 3 cities, doesn’t mean that Tipping Point Aus will also. What do the promos in Perth and Adelaide say, as the Eastern States say the new 5pm game show (or the likes of it).

The Double the Chasers thing would probably be for a short time, and id assume would air when Tipping Point Aus starts.

My understanding for Perth, at least, is that the 5pm News remains. Sources at Nine say none of the news team have been advised of a change from 5pm

How will Double Trouble work? Contestants lose most of the time anyway.

Looks desperate to me to be honest.

This isn’t a bright idea. Do viewers like when the contestants lose? Hopefully, they have only recorded a couple of weeks worth of this to counter TP’s launch and that’s it.

In my opinion, it’s a rare show where you don’t always want the contestants to win.

I’ve always been conflicted with this show, because I am always finding myself rooting for the Chaser.

Hopefully it’s a short term thing, and perhaps like the UK specials with all the chasers contestants would only ever face one - so they’ll do two head to heads each and one of them the final, or alternate questions in the final if it’s both of them to be somewhat fair.

The Chase is a format designed for the contestants to lose - it falls apart it the Chaser fail to live up to their reputation and beat them regularly. With the UK version it’s more about the game than the outcome - a close final chase is thrilling regardless of the outcome.

As for Tipping Point - funnily enough as Australia pick up their own version it may be on it’s way out here. The Deal or No Deal revival has done better in it’s slot, Jeopardy will be in it’s slot in January (though I expect that to flop personally) and the host is being tipped to be the new host of This Morning - so although I don’t think it will be axed it will likely have far fewer new episodes. It’s already been cut from 150 a year to 100.

Although nothing has been confirmed, but i would say that having the two chasers per episode will be nothing more than a bunch of “specials”.

Agree that The Chase format is designed for the contestants to lose. The closer the Final Chase is, the more exciting the show is. When the Chaser wins “by a mile”, or when there’s only one contestant left and scores lowly, it’s not as exciting. That’s what makes it interesting. Lots of variations with the show (well, for the final segment at least).

Can’t say I’ve been that invested…

Beat The Chasers UK Series 5 should be showing in Perth this summer, Series 5 features The Supernerd as the “Guest Chaser from Australia” who was sitting in for The Governess, who had Covid at the time of filming.

The Shark from The Chase appeared around 5pm AEST during the cricket coverage to ask a cricket trivia question, then returned shortly after with the answer.
