According to Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne, The Challenge Australia will debut on 10 on Tuesday, November 22. She also quoted from a source that there was an “executive intervention” to pull contestants into line, when production began in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Tuesday? Weird time to debut this show. Not that there is any good reasons to watch it if the promos are anything to go by. It looks as if they have thrown all the reality shows into a blender and out comes The Challenge.
I think 10’s plan is to air The Challenge from November 22 right through to the final week of 2022, to be immediately followed by the new season of The Bachelor Australia on January 3 as announced previously.
Tuesday = less competition? Maybe they learnt from The Traitors which launched against already established audiences for The Block and AGT. At least Ten are programming right until the end of the year. I guess it is essentially summer filler but might actually do ok with not much competition at that time of the year.
I know 10 has high hopes for The Bachelors come January 2nd to take over from Celebrity, but I think this show would’ve been a better option for a stripped format over summer.
I’m far more likely to sample this as something new to Australia than a retooled version of another show which is on the wane, and it’s likely got a bit more of a family friendly approach than a dating series.
It’s Time For The Challenge.
The Challenge Australia . Premieres Monday, 14 November At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.
Twenty-two of Australia’s biggest names of sport, reality and entertainment will face off in the most unpredictable and demanding game of their lives, when The Challenge Australia premieres on Monday, 14 November at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play.
Hosted by Brihony Dawson and filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, The Challenge Australia will see an algorithm randomly pair challengers to compete in gruelling physical challenges and survive eliminations. With a whopping $200,000 cash prize and an entry ticket for one female and one male into the first ever The Challenge: Global Championship, who will have what it takes to go down in reality television history as Australia’s first Challenge Champions?
One thing we know is these athletes, survivors and lovers know how to play games. Game on!
I never understand why 10 don’t launch programs on the night of the melbourne cup.
It used to work for 7.
Ahead of the debut of The Challenge Australia, Paramount+ will stream season 38 of the US version from Thursday (November 3). The male and female winners from that season will join the champions of The Challenge Australia, as well as the Argentine and UK versions, in The Challenge: Global Championship next year.
Rob Mills had a brief chat with Brihony Dawson at the Paramount marquee this morning.
According to an interview with Brihony Dawson in The Sunday Telegraph today, they were in South Africa for the filming of The Challenge: Global Championship which would air next year.
The Challenge Australia will air on Monday and Tuesday in its first week (November 14-15), with each episode just over an hour long.
Episode one is available to preview on 10 Play for a limited time.
It’s not there.
The pacing of this show reminds me of how reality shows used to be. So much seemed to happen in the first episode. The casting is great for a trashy reality show.
Buenas Noches Amigos!
Billy And Suzan Are Eliminated From The Challenge Australia.
Tonight, twenty-two of Australia’s biggest names across the entertainment, sports and reality worlds descended on Buenos Aires, Argentina, to begin the fight for the title of Challenge Champion. Unfortunately for pro-boxer Billy Dib, and influencer and actress Suzan Mutesi, they were eliminated and on the first flight back to Australia.
While bed-claiming created cut-throat drama for Cyclone Cyrell, this wasn’t the first official challenge of the season.
Speaking of, the Collect Four challenge had our Challengers choose their partners and compete in a high intensity-version of the classic game. The challenge saw pairs run around an Argentinean soccer stadium to collect tokens that could be used on their playing boards, with the first team to get ‘four in a row’, taking out the win. The task saw Emily Seebohm and Ryan Gallagher come out on top, with remaining teams unanimously identifying an under-the-weather Cyrell and partner Jack, as easy targets to send to elimination.
Billy and Suzan were chosen to join Jack and Cyrell at the Knot So Fast elimination challenge, which saw a tangled rope task ultimately bring Billy and Suzan undone after not being able to unravel their competition’s knotted mess.
Back at the house, a steamy shower session between Ciarran and Audrey, had Ciarran staring down the barrel of the camera, regretfully apologising to his partner back home.
Just as our Challengers started getting comfortable and alliances started to form, an algorithm was introduced as a tool to randomly pair contestants as teammates, ahead of each new challenge: a twist that will threaten loyalties and dismantle strategies.
Tune in 7.30pm tomorrow night as Challengers hang off semi-trucks while speeding down an airstrip at the “Truck It” challenge and a budding romance quickly turns sour, while a sneaky Challenger starts spreading rumours.
With $100,000 prize money up for grabs, one thing’s for sure. These Challengers will do anything to come up on top.
The Challenge Australia. Continues 7.30pm Tuesday On 10 And 10 Play.
Yep it felt really fast paced and was edited very American style. Good that it kept very close to an hour too. I assume to be in line with the international versions and so that it can also be shown in other markets. So far so good.
I liked it more than I thought and the simplicity of keeping it to an hour really worked for me. Briony was a good choice as host!
If the amount of interaction from the public on social media is an indication, this show will be a huge flop.
I will be surprised if it rated well. 10 hasn’t rated well in ages and this show is just washed up reality hacks competing against each other whilst brawling MAFS-style.
