Genuine question from someone with zero clue about the construction industry - do they transport the old homes to do up because it would be cheaper than just putting down a new slab and framing, or is it more to do with the storyline of ‘fixing up an old home’?
I think it’s the storyline. So it’s not just an open slather. That said though they let them design the layout of the interiors this past season with no plans.
Maybe it’s impact the build with ‘heritage’ listings as well.
hopefully with a lock and a special room for the whiteboard and a couple of portaloos far far away this year.
Tess revealed in a podcast that she even received death threats.
A barista joins The Block for the 2022 season. Who else is excited with this news?
Initially shown for a bit at the beginning of the season making coffees for everyone, when a scandal hits the show in week 3, the barista will be called in to be the judge - in what will be the barista’s biggest role yet. It will be a 2-week special on what the barista overheard.
After the scandal, we will then hear from the barista about their sponsored coffee, and to distract us viewers that no actual renovations will be shown on the air again.
Not me ![]()
Had to check it wasn’t April Fools when I saw that
So it’s basically saying its all scripted from day 1?
Note: Non-McCafe employees need not to apply.
Wow! So does this mean that the new barrister will be another un needed addition to the show, like having 2 foreman?
They probably do need one if one of the contestants have a hissy fit and sues the network for the ‘excess’ drama put onto them ![]()
I think you’re looking for an extra barista is that right? I agree it’s useless but it’s cross promotion galore.
It’s just another gimmick to the show.
Agree that two foremen aren’t needed. A barista isn’t needed. Shelly Craft doesn’t add much to the show, nor does Scott Cam outside of whistling at contestants to say “tools down” and then counts the scores.
Un needed? Scotty’s brother the A2 Milkman needs a love interest or the viewers will switch off!!
He doesn’t add much to the show either.
Anyone can do that.
I think it’s time for a generational reset and replace people like Scott and Shelly with new faces.

EP Julian Cress has told Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne that the show had received 40,000 applications for the new season at Gisborne South, which will start filming in April due to delay with permits. Cress says the teams will all be new and each contestant will be doing 40,000 square metres.
April is very late to start filming.
It will leave little time for final renovations and connections to utilities etc, before the houses are open for inspection.
Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne said the show was supposed to start filming yesterday, however a contestant returned a positive COVID test while final preparations were being made on Tuesday. The contestant is in isolation.
