The Paintball Scattering
Penny and Leonard organize a paintball game, which results in mayhem when Sheldon becomes jealous of Amy; Koothrappali catches Anu with her ex-boyfriend; Stuart doesn’t want to move in with Denise.
Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis have their first fight when Dr. Sturgis marks an answer wrong on Sheldon’s test; Mary takes over for Pastor Jeff when he’s out sick.
That’s episode 15 of season 2 of Young Sheldon. It aired in AFL states on March 14, the opening night of 2019 NRL season, so it will be a repeat for these areas. For NSW, ACT, Queensland and NT it will be first screening. After that all states will be up to date.
As outlined above, for those in the southern states, Young Sheldon will be 1 ep ahead of those in the northern states. I would’ve thought that Nine would air double new eps for those in the northern states next Monday.
I’m sure we’ll see it as filler programming in a few months, possibly in between the next series on Ninja Warrior and The Block. Those Big Bang fans Nine milked for ratings points back in the days when they were struggling don’t deserve any better.
With Bad Mothers on Mondays, Travel Guides on Tuesdays and New Amsterdam on Wednesdays, there was simply no suitable timeslot for Nine to show new episodes of TBBT in Q1.
Bad Mothers and Travel Guides could have been aired any time of the year as they are Nine’s own products, New Amsterdam was a gamble that paid off for a while. They could have aired Big Bang on any of those days and had it reasonably fast tracked and then caught up with the US airtime easily. While it may not rate as well as it did, it would have more potential being the lead up to the finale.
When Nine was airing Young Sheldon on Thursday nights at 7:30pm in February & early March before the NRL season began, they could’ve shown a new ep of TBBT afterwards instead of a repeat ep of YS. It could’ve gotten better ratings than a repeat ep of YS would, and we would not have been as far behind as we are now.
Still, it’s not as bad as it was in 2017, when Nine keeps stopping & starting the show throughout the year, to the point where the DVD got released before the last few eps of that season (with a big cliffhanger) had even aired here!
In the US, the last ever episode of The Big Bang Theory enjoyed a 18-49 rating of 3.2 and was watched by 18.52 million viewers, the show’s largest audience since September 2015. The season finale of Young Sheldon which followed, had a 18-49 rating of 2.1 and total audience of 13.6 million. The TBBT documentary A Big Bang Farewell had a 1.7 rating and audience of 11.61 million.
